Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgery. This role requires flexibility in scheduling, with start times varying between 6:00 AM and 8:30 AM, and the expectation to remain on duty until the end of the shift without relief. The nurse will perform patient assessments, medication administration, and collaborate closely with the surgical and interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and optimal recovery.
Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgery. This role requires flexibility in scheduling, with start times varying between 6:00 AM and 8:30 AM, and the expectation to remain on duty until the end of the shift without relief. The nurse will perform patient assessments, medication administration, and collaborate closely with the surgical and interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and optimal recovery.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and assess patients recovering from anesthesia in the PACU.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and healthcare team members for patient care planning.
- Maintain accurate patient records and document care provided.
- Provide patient education and support to patients and families post-surgery.
- Ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols.
- Manage patient care until they are stable for transfer or discharge from PACU.
- Active Registered Nurse license in California (pending licenses accepted).
- Minimum of 1 year nursing experience.
- Clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced acute care settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to accommodate variable start times and shift completion without relief.
- Experience specifically in PACU or post-surgical nursing care.
- Familiarity with acute care facility protocols and electronic medical records.
- Business casual or scrubs attire familiarity.
- Shift start times vary between 6:00 AM and 8:30 AM depending on daily assignment.
- Nurses scheduled for PACU must stay and complete the full shift as there is no shift relief for outpatient surgery.
- California state license required; pending licenses are accepted.
- Return to office (RTO) restrictions limit assignments to no more than 7 days.
- Primarily daytime shifts with staggered start times from 6:00 AM to 8:30 AM.
- Variable shifts may be assigned, requiring flexibility.
- Weekend work may be required.
