The keys to our success are our dedicated, hard-working, creative, and compassionate teachers. ***Job Purpose*** *The role of a teacher is to create a flexible program and class environment that is favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for all students in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and staff members.* **Essential Duties and Responsibilities*** Teaches Spanish, utilizing courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and all other appropriate learning activities* Literate and fluent in Spanish, can develop a cultural understanding and appreciation of Spanish speaking countries* Develops fluency and can guide students in conversational Spanish* Develops lessons plans and instructional materials, provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student* Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.* Translates lessons plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction* Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom* Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports* Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program* Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems* Creates an affective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers* Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities* Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines* Selects/requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records* Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day* Administers group standardized tests in accordance with State testing program* Participates in curriculum development programs as required* Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities* Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal or other school leadership**Qualifications*** Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or Education from an accredited College or University* Team player with experience working in a collaborative environment* Ability to listen to and communicate with parents* Possess conflict resolution skills* Utilizes good organizational skills to meet classroom and individual needs* Capable of working with small/large classroom groups**Basic Qualifications*** Exhibits a strong commitment to the ethos of Perspectives Charters Schools by striving to live by the 26 principles of *A Disciplined Life*(R) * Ensures that effective controls are developed and maintained to safeguard the integrity of the organization; ensures assignments are complete in a timely manner and within budget, focuses self and others on achieving results* Recognize and manage personal values in a way that allows professional values to guide practice* Ability to distinguish, appraise and integrate multiple sources of knowledge and practice wisdom* Serves as an advocate for social justice, the development of character and the right to pursue and receive an exceptional education* Provide opportunities for professional development based on individual and organizational growth* Supports and participates in the development of a professional community that understands and protects the vision, works toward it both collectively and in individual classrooms with students***Language Skills** • Ability to read, write and speak proficiently using the Spanish language • Ability to interact and speak effectively in interpersonal situations and before groups of people **Physical Demands** Majority of work will be performed in a general office/school environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties.
