Required Qualifications For Psychologists: A Ph.D./Psy.D. (or foreign equivalent) from an APA-accredited clinical or counseling psychology program. NYS Licensed Psychologist. For Social Workers: A Master of Social Work degree (foreign equivalent or higher). NYS Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). For Licensed Mental Health Counselors: A Master of Mental Health Counseling degree or related discipline. NYS Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with diagnostic privileges. Three (3) years of full-time experience in a leadership role managing clinical operations at a mental health center. Experience supervising professional staff. Preferred Qualifications Experience with clinical data management and/or reporting systems. Experience as a manager/supervisor in a university counseling center. Experience facilitating clinical meetings, case conferences, or training programs. Experience with quality assurance processes and data-driven decision‑making. Brief Description of Duties The successful incumbent will manage and optimize clinical operations for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). This role will manage the case assignment process to promote equitable caseload distribution, oversee chart audits to maintain compliance and quality standards, and support data collection, reporting, and continuous quality improvement initiatives across main and satellite offices. The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time‑management skills with exceptional attention to detail. The incumbent should have the ability to handle spontaneous work demands while undertaking projects that require planning. The incumbent plays a crucial role as a team member within Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services. They will collaborate with other team members to collectively contribute to the overall functioning and effectiveness of the services provided. This involves actively participating in team meetings, sharing insights, and engaging in collaborative decision‑making processes. The incumbent’s role extends to fostering a cooperative and supportive atmosphere, ensuring seamless teamwork, and collectively working towards the common goals and objectives of Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services. Clinical Operations Oversight Optimize systems for a smooth entry of new clients to CAPS’ services. Assist the Associate Director in overseeing providers’ schedules to optimize utilization of clinical services. Assist Associate Director in monitoring and ensuring the smooth, timely and appropriate delivery of counseling and psychiatric services. Manage the case assignment process and ensure client cases are distributed and absorbed efficiently and equitably. Oversee quarterly chart audits to ensure compliance with documentation requirements, risk‑management protocols, and quality‑improvement benchmarks. Support data collection, analysis, and reporting for leadership, accreditation bodies, and continuous quality improvement. Satellite offices as necessary. Direct Clinical Services Maintain an active caseload of individual, group, or couples counseling. Deliver services to students who are unscheduled (walk‑in) CAPS for crisis‑related issues. Deliver high‑quality, culturally responsive clinical care aligned with CAPS standards. Maintain current, accurate clinical documentation to meet NY, federal (FERPA), and accreditation standards and CAPS policies in all areas. Serve all campuses, including West, East (HSC), and Southampton campus locations. Provide consultation and direct services during campus crises, collaborating with campus partners as directed. Front Desk & Administrative Leadership Provide oversight to CAPS front desk operations, including phone agent services, ensuring high‑quality, student‑centered service for all seeking care. Support administrative processes that enhance access, efficiency, and operational excellence. Work closely with Student Health Services to coordinate integrated front desk staffing. Supervision & Clinical Support Provide clinical and administrative supervision and training for staff clinicians and/or trainees. Offer clinical consultation to staff on complex cases, including guidance on hospitalization and other urgent mental health situations. Manage weekly case consultations and compliance‑related staff training requirements. Offer outreach and psychoeducational programming to the campus community to promote mental health awareness and well‑being. Leadership & Strategic Planning Serve as a member of the CAPS leadership team. Contribute to strategic planning, service model development, and operational improvements that enhance student well‑being and service delivery. When necessary, support after‑hours call rotation. Professional Development and Committee Involvement Participate in opportunities that promote learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committee, webinar, etc.). Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas outside of your unit/department (i.e., campus‑wide traditions, events, programs, etc.). Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. Evening and weekend work may be required at times. Special Notes This is a full‑time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
