Program Coordinator for Teacher Pathways Programs, DHR - 26612 Community Coordinator Level: N/A Division/Office: Division of Finance, Administration, and Human Resources Borough: Brooklyn Posting End Date: 07/07/2026 Description Position Summary: The Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality (TRQ) is responsible for the recruitment of diverse and talented teachers to meet the staffing needs of New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) and programs, as well as being responsible for initiatives to promote the equitable and quality distribution of teachers across all schools. Research has repeatedly shown that teacher quality is the single most important variable in raising student learning. TRQ accomplishes its work through a strategic, data driven approach that focuses on the following efforts: Serve as the primary marketing agent and source of information to individuals seeking to become NYCPS teachers, to recruit a large, high quality, equitable and diverse pool of candidates. Design, manage recruitment and pathways for individuals to become NYCPS teachers, especially to address diversity, subject and geographic shortage areas. Select a diverse and high quality pool of candidates to become teachers through rigorous, research-driven, screening processes. Design and implement high quality professional development and experiences for teacher candidates. Provide inclusive best practices and support to schools to help them make optimal, local hiring decisions. Lead candidates to teacher certification within our communities to promote an equitable distribution of teachers across all schools. Support new teachers with consistent onboarding experiences across the system when they are hired and throughout their first year. TRQ is looking for a Program Coordinator for Teacher Pathway Programs to support the implementation of both our undergraduate paraprofessional to teacher pathway, and our high school to teacher pathway programs. The Program Coordinator will also support the expansion of both programs and develop new opportunities for aspiring teacher candidates to become certified teachers through Grow-Your-Own models. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will support the management of wrap around supports for our teacher pathway programs that support the retention of program participants, modeled after NYC Men Teach, which include mentorship, professional development, monthly engagements, and monthly meetings with institutions of higher education partners. In addition, the program coordinator will support the communications strategies for both pathway programs and use data and insights to evaluate success. Performs related work. Reports to Director, Teacher Pathways Program Team Key Relationships Key staff from national and local colleges of education; staff within the Division of Human Resources, Office of Student Pathways, Office of School Support, Young Men’s Initiative (YMI); City University of New York (CUNY); United Federation of Teachers (UFT) and community based organizations. Responsibilities Support the implementation of our undergraduate and high school to teacher pathway programs. Support with data analysis and program evaluation to measure success. Use data and insights to support program improvement. Collaborate with CUNY and other Institutions of Higher Education to support the management and expansion of both pathway programs to meet the teacher vacancy needs of NYCPS. Cultivate deep partnerships with local community based organizations to build robust teacher pathway programs that enable candidates to work closely with students during their preparation. Support program management with wraparound programmatic support for participants, including mentorship, professional development opportunities, community engagement, etc. Support the recruitment and communications strategy for both pathway programs. Work closely with the Office of Student Pathways, Office of School Support and other key stakeholders. Work across departments within the NYCPS as well as the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), to support the implementation of career ladder pathway programs, including a high school to teacher pathway and paraprofessional to teacher pathway. This involves: Collaborating across NYCPS offices to build a robust program with a clear value proposition for candidates; Developing marketing and recruitment materials; Supporting meeting ambitious recruitment targets; and Tracking candidate progress throughout the program. Qualification Requirements Minimum A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above. Plus In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described in “1” above. Preferred Experience managing programs. Experience working in a fast paced environment. Experience in teacher recruitment. Experience working in or with NYCPS or other urban school systems. Experience in program development, management, and continuous improvement. Experience with presenting and analyzing data, monitoring trends, and making suggestions for improvement. Proactive and flexible; willing to take initiative. Strong technical skills, with the ability to maneuver multiple software programs and platforms. Works well independently and in teams; true collaborator. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. Strong organizational skills; the ability to manage several projects simultaneously and prioritize among them while meeting deadlines. Superior public speaking and relationship management skills; the ability to influence and motivate others. Deep understanding of the education sector and general knowledge of both national and New York State policies. Understanding of issues and opportunities associated with recruiting a diverse teaching force. Familiarity with the New York State certification regulations and requirements.
