Company Description Montclair Public Library Foundation is a nonprofit organization based at 50 South Fullerton Avenue in Montclair, New Jersey. The Foundation exists to support the Montclair Public Library through fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement. It works closely with library leadership to secure resources that enhance programs, collections, and services for residents of all ages. The organization is rooted in the local community and collaborates with donors, partners, and volunteers to expand access to learning and cultural enrichment. Candidates joining the Foundation will contribute directly to sustaining and growing a vital community institution.
Role Description The Development and Communications Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Montclair, NJ, responsible for leading fundraising and external communications efforts for the Montclair Public Library Foundation. Day-to-day tasks include planning and implementing annual giving campaigns, donor stewardship activities, and special events; managing donor databases and gift processing; and preparing reports and updates for leadership and the board. The role also develops and executes communication strategies, including writing and editing newsletters, social media content, website updates, press releases, and donor materials. The Manager collaborates with library staff and community partners to promote programs and initiatives, strengthen the Foundation’s brand, and engage supporters. This position requires regular interaction with donors and stakeholders, coordination of timelines and budgets, and continuous evaluation of fundraising and outreach results.
Qualifications

Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising or development, including donor cultivation, stewardship, and campaign or event management.
- Strong communication skills, with experience writing and editing for newsletters, websites, social media, and donor-facing materials.
- Ability to manage projects from planning through execution, including coordinating timelines, budgets, and multiple stakeholders.
- Proficiency with office and database software; familiarity with donor management or CRM systems is highly beneficial.
- Collaborative working style, with the ability to build relationships with donors, community partners, board members, and staff.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
- Understanding of or interest in public libraries, nonprofits, and community-based organizations.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, nonprofit management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
