Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller will support the accounting and finance function of a growing organization by partnering closely with senior financial leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, oversee core accounting processes, and provide day-to-day leadership to a small accounting team. This role blends strategic financial oversight with hands-on involvement in monthly close activities, financial statement preparation, and process improvement initiatives in a fast-growing environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior financial leadership in managing the organization's accounting and financial reporting functions.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Support the preparation of financial information and analyses presented to executive leadership and the Board.
• Perform and oversee account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, to maintain accurate account balances.
• Lead and manage month-end close activities, including journal entries and general ledger maintenance.
• Ensure compliance with established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Supervise, coach, and develop a small accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes, providing financial analysis to support organizational decision-making.
• Support organizational growth initiatives, including the integration of new business operations and related accounting processes.
• Leverage ERP and financial systems to improve reporting accuracy, streamline workflows, and enhance financial visibility.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address financial reporting needs and support operational initiatives.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Multiple years of progressive accounting experience (exact number not specified).
• Prior experience in an Assistant Controller, senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or similar role.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, including preparation and review of financial statements and management reports.
• Demonstrated experience managing month-end close processes, including journal entries and general ledger maintenance.
• Proficiency in account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Solid knowledge of general accounting principles and internal control practices.
• Experience leading or mentoring accounting staff in a team environment.
• ERP system experience, with the ability to leverage financial systems to improve reporting accuracy.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-growing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• NetSuite ERP experience strongly preferred.
• Public accounting experience is a plus.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting and fund accounting is a plus.
• Experience supporting organizational growth initiatives and integrating new business operations.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements in accounting and reporting.
• Interest in contributing to a mission-driven, values-oriented organization.

Work Environment

This role is based on site in an office environment and follows standard business hours. The position operates within a professional setting that relies on ERP and financial systems, including general ledger, reporting, and reconciliation tools. The work involves regular interaction with leadership and cross-functional teams in a collaborative, growth-focused culture.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lutz, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $45.00/hr.
