About the Position

Job Opportunity – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) RN – Virginia

Start Date: October 26, 2026

Location: Central Virginia

Schedule: Night shift, 36 or 48 hours per week available, 13-week or 26-week assignment options. Required to work 3 weekends per 6-week scheduling period and 2 out of 3 winter holidays. 36-hour orientation provided.

Highlights:

• Level III/IV NICU with 54-bed capacity serving neonates and infants with complex medical needs including extreme prematurity (22 weeks and above), cardiac anomalies, and post-operative care
• Patient ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 for ICU-level patients, 1:3 for stepdown
• Epic charting system with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, and social services
• Advanced technology environment including ECMO, high-frequency ventilation, iNO, therapeutic hypothermia, and whole-body cooling for HIE patients
• Flu vaccine required (no exemptions); COVID-19 vaccine not required
• Floating required to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, and L&D within scope of practice

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of full-time Level III NICU experience required; Level IV highly preferred (floating experience does not fulfill this requirement)
• Active Virginia RN license (pending licenses accepted, must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)
• BLS certification required
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required in-hand at time of submission
• Dr. Brown's Infant Driven Feeding Certificate required (can be submitted pending; $200 cost)
• Epic charting experience required
• Patient ratio experience of 1:3 required
• Strong clinical experience required with high-frequency ventilators, conventional ventilators, iNO, tracheostomy care, NIPPV/NIMV, CPAP/BiPAP, IV fluid management including drips, hemodynamic support, post-op care, whole-body cooling, IV placements, lab draws, wound/drain/line care, ostomy care, and medication calculations
• Demonstrated competency assisting with intubation, lumbar puncture, PICC placement, umbilical line placement, and chest tube placement
• BSN preferred
• References and Nursys verification required with submission

• Maximum 40 hours of time off approved per 13-week contract (must be disclosed at submission)

• Travelers must be available to work within 50-mile travel restriction guidelines
• Up to 16 hours of non-billable facility modules completed during orientation
