Security Officer

Responsibilities Patrol assigned areas, especially those with a history of security problems. Identify unsafe conditions and unsecured areas/property to prevent theft, injuries, or damages. Maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Investigate thefts, shortages, and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct by questioning individuals; notify appropriate law enforcement and participate in court proceedings as required. Prepare and submit written reports; make notations in the incident log; keep the supervisor informed. Maintain accountability for valuables/property and custody of evidence; ensure safekeeping and maintain documentation. Respond to calls for service using integrated security systems; use a two‑way radio; provide and maintain documentation. Assist with workplace and domestic victims; respond to medical emergencies; when authorized, assist in restraint of patients; participate in protection of dignitaries; control pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Voluntary participation in departmental committees, task forces, and teams. Education Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice preferred. Licenses and Credentials Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Avade Workplace Violence Prevention Certification Levels I, II, III; training to be completed in person within six months of hire. Experience Experience in hospital security, police, emergency medical, or customer services preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills; ability to establish positive relationships. Ability to deescalate anxious or stressed people and manage aggression. Works effectively independently and in teams; able to multitask. Strong problem‑solving skills; critical and analytical thinking; good judgment. Customer service skills: accessible, energetic, concerned, empathetic, positive attitude, collaborative, flexible. Displays a positive image, tact, diplomacy, active listening, and articulate communication. Understanding of community policing, risk analysis, and crime prevention concepts and practices. Strong writing skills to provide and maintain documentation to support data. Intermediate computer skills: typing and use of database software.
