We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join a team in Birmingham, Alabama in a contract capacity. This position supports day-to-day payable operations, account reconciliation, and issue resolution for assigned insurance-related business units. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external carrier partners.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee accounts payable activities for assigned carrier and agency relationships while ensuring work aligns with established financial controls and internal procedures.
• Investigate and resolve billing or accounting discrepancies by coordinating with insurance carriers, agency personnel, and internal stakeholders.
• Reconcile account balances on a routine basis and confirm payments are completed accurately and within required timelines.
• Prepare and submit payable invoices and vendor payment requests for processing through the appropriate accounting channels.
• Manage recurring payment activity for designated agencies and monitor transactions for completeness and accuracy.
• Provide guidance and training to agency staff on accounts payable practices and proper financial procedures.
• Act as coverage support for other regional accounting team members when workload balancing or absences require backup assistance
• Associate’s degree or comparable combination of education, training, and relevant work experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in an accounting or accounts payable-focused position.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable functions, account coding, accruals, and reconciliation practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with accounting platforms such as ERP systems, Concur, ADP Financial Services, or similar software.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.
• High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail when handling financial transactions and records.
