Patent Agent - Biotech

Job Overview A law firm seeks a Patent Agent with a Ph.D. in the biological sciences to join their San Francisco, CA office. The role involves engaging in patent prosecution, freedom‑to‑operate analysis, and due diligence, focusing on innovative biotechnology to secure patent protection and develop IP portfolios. Duties Manage patent portfolios and coordinate prosecution with foreign associates. Collaborate with scientists and inventors to draft patent applications. Draft office action responses and prosecute patent applications. Assess scientific literature, patents, and patent application documents. Conduct patent‑landscape and freedom‑to‑operate searches and assist with analysis. Work with investors to conduct IP diligence for potential investments. Assist with IP diligence on biotech initial public offerings and other capital markets transactions. Requirements USPTO admission required. Ph.D. degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields. At least three years of patent prosecution experience preferred. Experience drafting patent applications de novo from invention disclosure forms. Ability to present scientific concepts to scientists and non‑scientists. Ability to prioritize responsibilities, stay organized, and exercise attention to detail. Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team setting. Education Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields. Certifications USPTO admission. Skills Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
