Under the general supervision of the principal investigator, you will conduct a variety of computational and data‑driven analyses in support of biological research projects. Your work may also involve routine and specialized laboratory experiments using molecular and cell biology and/or biochemistry techniques. Your main responsibilities include performing computational workflows with speed, precision, and a solid understanding of the underlying biological questions. This includes data processing, quantitative analysis, visualisation, and interpretation of high‑dimensional experimental data sets using established software tools, scripts and analytical pipelines. You may also assist with sample preparation, experimental execution or validation studies, and may operate moderate to complex laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers and flow cytometers. Primary Responsibilities Perform routine and non‑routine laboratory tests, including DNA sequencing, gene cloning, in situ hybridisation, immunohistochemistry, and northern blotting. Operate and maintain moderate to complex lab equipment such as spectrophotometers and flow cytometers. Use analytical abilities and sound judgment to assess the reliability and accuracy of results, repeating procedures when necessary. Assist with planning specific research procedures and coordinating schedules of tests and procedures. Prepare written and/or verbal reports on the status of research, including statistical and graphic summaries of findings and possible conclusions. Provide technical expertise in a specific area, such as electron microscopy, contributing to the laboratory through this experience. Demonstrate routine to complex lab techniques to others in the lab. Attend Medical Center safety lectures, courses, conferences, and consult with other researchers and technicians to exchange information. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or a related scientific field. 1–3 years of related work experience, or 1 year of related experience with a Master’s degree and requisite knowledge and skills. Experience with computer systems, including web‑based applications and Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access. Customer Service Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner. Social/Environmental Requirements Work requires periods of close attention with interruption‑free concentration. Concentrated effort of up to four hours without break may be required. The routine is fairly consistent, but employees must be able to use judgement to respond to events several times a week. Potential Exposure To Adverse Environmental Conditions Daily exposure to dust, gas, fumes, steam, chemicals and lab equipment. Protective equipment such as respirators, earplugs, masks, gloves and eyewear required. Exposure to infectious or bloodborne pathogens possible. Several times a week potential exposure to radiation from an irradiator. Sensory Requirements Close visual work (paperwork, visual examination), color vision/perception, visual monotony, visual clarity of Physical Requirements Light work: Exertion of up to 20 pounds frequently to move objects. Some sedentary elements, but employee required to stand and move. Constant endurance, working 5–6 hours without break, frequent sitting and standing, fine manipulation with both hands. Rarely power grasping with both hands. Pay Range $21.64 – $31.25 per hour. The pay range listed is the base hourly wage the organization reasonably expects to pay at this time. Actual compensation may exceed the base rate based on seniority, education, training, experience, certifications, geographic location, job responsibilities or other permissible factors. It may include shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay and other practices. Vaccination Requirement All staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
