Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance and consulting for a diverse portfolio of clients. The Tax Manager will oversee preparation and review of federal and state tax returns, manage client relationships, and provide strategic tax planning for partnerships, S corporations, and high-net-worth individuals. This role combines technical expertise, team leadership, and project management to ensure accurate, timely filings and proactive tax advice.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and review preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns for partnerships, S corporations, LLCs, and individuals.
• Manage a portfolio of clients, building strong relationships and serving as the primary tax contact for planning and compliance matters.
• Provide technical tax research and develop tax-efficient strategies for business entities and individual clients.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop senior staff and associates, including assigning work, reviewing deliverables, and providing performance feedback.
• Coordinate and manage tax engagements, including timelines, deliverables, budgets, and quality control.
• Oversee complex tax compliance tasks such as multi-state allocations, basis calculations, and partner/shareholder tax allocations.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax law changes and communicate impacts and opportunities to clients and internal teams.
• Collaborate with audit, consulting, and advisory teams on cross-functional client needs and special projects.
• Utilize tax software and technology to streamline processes, improve accuracy, and increase efficiency.
• Participate in business development activities, client proposals, and presentations to expand service offerings and firm growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field; Masters in Tax or relevant advanced degree is a plus.
• CPA license required or active CPA candidate; substantial progress toward CPA acceptable in some cases.
• Minimum 5-7 years of public accounting tax experience with progressive responsibilities; prior Tax Manager experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing tax returns for partnerships, S corporations, and individuals, including complex returns and multi-state filings.
• Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulations, and tax research methodologies.
• Proven leadership and people management skills, including coaching, delegation, and performance management.
• Experience working in public accounting environment with client-facing responsibilities and business development exposure.
• Proficiency with tax software such as CCH and UltraTax (preferred) and familiarity with common research tools and firm technology.
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients and colleagues.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
