Business Development Manager

Manager, Business Development

Bartlett Cocke General Contractors is looking for a Manager, Business Development in Austin, TX! As Business Development Manager, you are key to our business development endeavors in that region. Whether forging new relationships or nurturing established ones, your actions embody our commitment to client experience and market leadership. In addition to client relationship management, you will lead regional community relationships, identifying events and associations for your region to partner with. You will also oversee your region's proposal interview process, ensuring we are consistently aligned with opportunities that resonate with our values, vision, and strategy. This role also plays an important part in developing, implementing, and continuously improving regional business development, pursuit, and client engagement processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the construction and design industry, enabling them to effectively communicate Bartlett Cocke's value, delivery methods, and project approach to clients and partners. Though you will report to the Regional VP, your strategies and efforts will be guided by the direction provided by the BD Director, emphasizing unity and cohesion across all our business development efforts, practices, and strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Relationship Cultivation: Build new relationships within the region and nurture existing ones, ensuring each connection is meaningful and aligned with our values, culture, and goals.
  • Community Engagement: Lead and strategize regional community engagement, identifying and connecting with pertinent events, associations, and organizations.
  • Process Management: Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of regional BD and pursuit processes, ensuring each opportunity supports our commitment to quality and community.
  • Strategic Support: While maintaining autonomy, draw strategy and support from the corporate BD function, ensuring regional efforts align with the broader company vision and supporting a collaborative BD team across all regions.
  • Interview Preparation: Manage the regional proposal interview process, assist the development of digital assets for presentations, and cultivate winning strategies that engage project owners and end users.
  • Oversee Growth: Monitor BD processes and strategies across regions, ensuring our growth is both purposeful and impactful.
  • Management: Direct and mentor the Regional Proposals Manager, ensuring their work is aligned with regional BD objectives and guiding them in crafting effective proposals.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with regional Project Executives, Preconstruction leaders, and project teams, fortifying client relationships and enriching the proposal development process internally and for our clients.

  • AEC Operations Knowledge: Working knowledge of construction, design, and project delivery processes, with the ability to communicate operational and technical concepts effectively to clients and industry partners.

  • Client Research: Expertise in client research, ensuring pursuits are informed and purposeful.
  • CRM Experience: Efficient CRM data management skills, ensuring accurate and timely data capture and a valuable shared resource.

  • Market Insight: Recognize industry, market, design, and construction trends, leveraging your knowledge for strategic advantages.
  • Active Listening: Superior listening skills, ensuring every interaction is impactful and client centric.
  • Presentation Skills: Proficiency in developing and delivering presentations, effectively highlighting our proposals, processes, and value.
  • Strategy Execution: Implement client and project pursuit strategies collaboratively and with dedication to Bartlett Cocke's goals and values.
  • Process Management: Expertise in managing, developing, and facilitating relationship-building, pursuit, and proposal processes, ensuring efficient and effective practices in your region.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of B2B experience in AEC marketing and/or business development
  • Experience developing, implementing, or improving business development, pursuit, marketing, or operational processes.
  • Working knowledge of construction, design, preconstruction, and/or project delivery processes; experience within a construction, design, engineering, or related AEC environment required.
  • Proven track record of success in business development in the construction industry, especially in Texas
  • Demonstrable leadership skills, with an emphasis on guiding and motivating teams.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of regional nuances.
  • Ability to align personal goals with broader company vision and values.
  • Ability to regularly travel throughout the greater Austin area.
  • Ability to periodically travel throughout Texas.
