Senior Environmental Planner

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Planner to lead and deliver high-quality environmental planning advice across a varied portfolio of infrastructure, development, and land-use projects. You will manage projects from early feasibility and consenting strategy through to assessment, approvals, implementation, and compliance. The role will involve interpreting environmental legislation and planning policy, identifying project risks and opportunities, and developing practical solutions that support sustainable development and timely project delivery.

Key responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing environmental impact assessments, planning applications, environmental management plans, technical reports, and approval documentation. You will coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and specialist consultants, manage budgets and programmes, and engage with regulators, local authorities, landowners, communities, and other stakeholders. You will also provide technical leadership to less experienced team members, contribute to business development, prepare proposals and fee estimates, and support continuous improvement of environmental planning processes. Strong communication skills will be essential, including the ability to explain complex environmental matters clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in environmental planning, impact assessment, planning approvals, or a closely related field, together with a relevant degree or professional qualification. You will have a strong understanding of applicable environmental and planning legislation, consent pathways, and consultation requirements. Experience managing complex projects, coordinating diverse stakeholders, and delivering work to agreed quality, budget, and time standards is highly desirable. We are looking for a commercially aware and collaborative professional who demonstrates sound judgement, attention to detail, initiative, and a commitment to high standards of environmental performance. A recognised professional membership and experience in sectors such as transport, energy, infrastructure, urban development, or natural resources would be advantageous.
