Title – Enterprise / Application Solutions Architect (Retail & E-Commerce – GCP) Location – Remote (PST Time Zone) Duration of the Contract – Long-Term Contract

Skills Required

Architecture Leadership & Strategy

• Define enterprise-wide architecture standards, principles, and governance frameworks.
• Develop and maintain reference architectures, reusable patterns, and best practices.
• Establish clarity on system boundaries, data flows, and integration strategies using industry-standard modeling frameworks.

Architecture Enablement

• Collaborate with engineering teams through architecture co-creation, design reviews, and solution guidance.
• Provide hands-on support during technical solutioning, POCs, and platform migrations.
• Mentor teams to improve overall architectural maturity and adoption of best practices.

Solution Architecture

• Lead vendor evaluations based on non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, latency, security, and cost.
• Define canonical data models, integration patterns, and data governance strategies.
• Establish API contracts including versioning, lifecycle management, and domain boundaries.
• Create and maintain architectural artifacts such as:
• C4 model diagrams
• Application and system landscape diagrams
• Sequence diagrams and process flows
• Integration architecture maps
• Partner with enterprise architecture teams to ensure alignment with global standards.

Architecture Governance

• Drive a two-layer governance model:
• Enterprise Architecture Board – Owns long-term strategy and standards
• Digital Architecture Review Board (DARB) – Conducts weekly solution reviews and ensures compliance
• Document decisions using Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), including:
• Context and problem statement
• Options considered
• Final decision and rationale
• Risks, impacts, and future considerations

Target Architecture & Modernization

• Drive transition to a service-based architecture to decouple frontend and backend systems.
• Ensure core business capabilities (payments, inventory, promotions, etc.) are built as independent services rather than embedded in monolithic platforms.
• Define stable API contracts to enable:
• Platform independence
• Plug-and-play capabilities across CDP, loyalty, commerce, and payments systems
• Reduced vendor lock-in
• Support evaluation and architecture design for platforms such as:
• Customer Data Platform (CDP)
• Loyalty systems
• Reduce dependency on Salesforce as an orchestration layer and introduce scalable services frameworks.

E-Commerce & Digital Expertise

• Strong understanding of:
• Product catalog and taxonomy
• Cart and checkout flows
• Order lifecycle and fulfillment orchestration
• Payments, fraud detection, and promotions
• Customer accounts, identity, and loyalty systems
• Experience designing high-scale, high-availability platforms for peak traffic scenarios.

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Knowledge of edge technologies such as Cloudflare (Workers, CDN, security).
• Ability to define scalable, resilient, and observable infrastructure patterns.

Nice to Have

• Experience with:
• Salesforce Commerce / Salesforce Platform
• Shopify headless or composable commerce architectures

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in enterprise or solution architecture within retail, digital, or B2C environments.
• Proven track record in platform modernization and large-scale architecture initiatives.
• Strong expertise in integration patterns (event-driven, messaging, REST, GraphQL, asynchronous).
• Experience collaborating with product, engineering, security, and business stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive storytelling skills.
