About the Position

Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 18 months PCU RN experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with traches, cardiac medication administration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, blood products, wound care/dressing changes, management of central lines Description: Seeking an RN for a Progressive Care Unit. The facility has 241 licensed beds and is a Level 3 Trauma Center. It is a teaching hospital and a Certified Chest Pain Center. The unit has 32 beds and accepts patients not requiring mechanical ventilation. Common patient types and diagnoses include CHF, dysrhythmias, chest pain workups, strokes, abdominal illnesses and infections, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, acute kidney injury/chronic kidney disease, alcohol withdrawal, and IV drug use. The standard patient ratio for RNs is 1:4, potentially going to 1:5 based on acuity. LPNs typically have a ratio of 4:1, and CNAs have a ratio of 1:12 during days and 1:16 during nights. Support within the department includes a charge nurse for assistance. Phlebotomy is available, with nurses responsible for drawing blood. There is 24/7 support from Clientists, Intensivists, and Respiratory Therapy. Telemetry monitoring is conducted at the bedside and at the nurses' station. Technology used includes an electronic medical record system, IV pumps, medication dispensing, and monitors. Floating may be required based on regional needs, and details will be provided at the time of scheduling. Travelers should be prepared to work every other weekend and up to 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Uniform color is navy. The unit culture is family-oriented.
