Executive Director

Assistance League of St. Louis is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that has served the greater St. Louis community nearly 40 years. We are dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults in need in the greater St. Louis area. Our five community programs, with 480 member volunteers and a strong legacy of service, combine to strengthen our partnerships with schools, shelters and community agencies. We remove barriers, restore dignity and create opportunities for brighter futures. As one of the nation’s largest Assistance League chapters, we are poised to build on this extraordinary foundation and enter our next chapter of growth under the leadership of our first Executive Director.

WHY THIS ROLE IS UNIQUE

With an annual $1.7M annual budget and 480 members, our organization has entered an exciting new phase: transitioning to our first Executive Director - led model. Our organization has reached a scale where professional leadership is essential to ensure sustainability, accountability and mission growth. While the Board of Directors will remain operational and deeply engaged, the addition of a paid Executive Director will strengthen our capacity to service the community and empower our members. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with seasoned leaders to bring structure, clarity and strategic growth while honoring a strong culture of volunteerism and community trust.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Increase annual fundraising and cultivate prospective donors and grantors Lead overall operations and organizational strategy Partner closely with the Board of Directors and appointed leaders In consultation with the Treasurer, review and approve the annual budget Represent the organization with community partners and stakeholders Represent the organization to the media on an as-needed basis Implement strategic priorities and strengthen organizational systems Supervise and evaluate contractors and consultants Foster a collaborative, inclusive and mission-driven culture

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Five years' non-profit experience + degree from an accredited four-year university Proven experience as an Executive Director or senior nonprofit leader Competency and proficiency in budget development and financial management Ability to lead with empathy, build consensus and inspire collaboration Excellent written, verbal and public speaking skills Proven fundraising experience and donor relationship skills Lead with integrity, strong organizational and planning skills Knowledge of fundraising software and Microsoft Office Suite Knowledge and experience with volunteer management Experience in a culture of trust, transparency, and accountability Assistance League® of St. Louisi[s] offers a flexible schedule competitive wage health insurance paid vacation and holidays after one year of employment, a professional development allowance optional 403(b) retirement plan with a 3% employer contribution Assistance League® of St. Louisi[s] an equal opportunity employer.
