Position Overview Company: Cox Automotive – USA Job Family Group: Vehicle Operations Job Profile: Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – DOT Management Level: Individual Contributor Travel: 100% Work Shift: Variable Compensation: $32.07 – $48.13 per hour. Eligible for commission and incentive program. Shift: Monday to Friday – Day shift Flexible Work Option: Can work remotely but must live in the specified city, state, or region. Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various types of truck equipment including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials. Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials. Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges. Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation. Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives. Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation. Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections. Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems. Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work related activities and time allocations. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift, and jacks. Document work according to company standards and upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (“RO”) using the company iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application. Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner. Work independently and manage daily schedule. Maintain a high level of productivity and adhere to Standard Repair Times. Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed. Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for repair approvals and updates. Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT. Maintain company‑issued service truck and conduct daily safety checks and pre/post trip inspections. Requirements High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field; alternatively, a relevant degree or certification beyond a HS diploma and 5 years of experience. Supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties. Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within eighteen (18) months. Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical or submit a DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining. Be at least 21 years old. Hold a valid state driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File. Certifications Required: ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months. Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), ASE T4 (Brakes), ASE T5 (Suspension), ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), ASE T7 (HVAC), ASE 608/609. Skills & Abilities Understand implications of new information for current and future problem solving. Physically able to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor. Physically exert over long periods without tiring; perform repetitive tasks.
