Summary The Clinical Nurse 2 colleague possesses the knowledge, skills, and attitude to effectively meet standards for competent professional nursing practice as specified in the Clinical Nurse 2 position description. The colleague independently provides patient care through the application of the nursing process and accepts accountability for the nursing care of assigned patients ranging from infancy to the elderly. The colleague works closely with the interprofessional health care team to facilitate coordination of care across the continuum, focusing on expanding knowledge and skills necessary for individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age appropriate considerations of assigned patients. Responsibilities The Clinical Nurse 2 is responsible for applying Continuous Quality Improvement methods to identify and address care quality issues, integrating QI initiatives into individual care plans, and linking projects to Penn Medicine Quality Blueprint imperatives. The role requires evaluating and integrating best evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences through the evidence-based practice process, questioning current practice, and developing clinical inquiry. Leadership involves collaborating using systems thinking, communicating effectively, managing conflict, and allocating resources appropriately. Person and Family Centered Care requires recognizing patients as partners, managing complex patient assignments, and promoting advanced care planning discussions. Professionalism demands adherence to ANA’s Code of Ethics, participation in professional organizations, obtaining certifications, and providing constructive feedback. Safety responsibilities include minimizing harm, responding to unsafe situations, analyzing errors, and supporting system improvements. Teamwork involves effective cooperation across intra- and interprofessional teams, asserting positions, describing roles, and supporting collaborative practice, and continuously planning for effective team development. Technology and Informatics responsibilities include utilizing clinical information systems, supporting decision making, mitigating errors, managing knowledge, and serving as a resource for technology use while ensuring privacy and efficient communication. Credentials Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required) Registered Nurse - NJ (Required) Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License (required prior to first day of hire) National Nursing Certification preferred Education or Equivalent Experience Bachelor of Science Nursing (Required) Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing or in pursuit of a BSN > 15 months professional nursing experience Associate of Arts or Science A registered nurse with an Associate’s Degree with greater than 5 years of clinical experience in a clinical specialty may be considered.
