Nurse Externship Program

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing top quality and safe healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities since 1917. Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the American Heart Association for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and Stroke, and most recently, coronary artery disease. Additionally, Aiken Regional provides comprehensive healthcare services such as behavioral health, emergency medical care, orthopedic surgeries, maternity, rehabilitation services, imaging, and wound care.

The Nurse Externship Program is for graduating Seniors in their final semester of Nursing School. Nurse externs gain valuable knowledge, nursing skills, time management, and critical thinking skills amongst other things in this program. The externs will complete their preceptorships in an area agreed upon by the extern and nursing leadership. Accepting externs in the following areas:

• ICU
• PCU
• Emergency
• Acute Medical Surgical
• Post-Surgical/Stroke
• Cardiac/Step-down
• Behavioral Health (Psych)
• Operating Room

Qualifications Requirements:

• Must be set to graduate Spring 2027.
• Must be a student at Aiken Technical College or University of South Carolina-Aiken only in the Nursing program.
• Must be able to commit to 8 additional 12 hour shifts OR 12 additional 12 hour shifts in addition to practicum hours required for graduation.
• Must maintain a B average in current semester.
