This intensive 6-week course is designed to provide the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to become a successful Big 10 Mart Kitchen Manager. As a Kitchen Manager In Training, you will learn every aspect of operating a high-volume food service department, from food safety and inventory management to team leadership and profitability. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be prepared to lead a kitchen team and drive operational excellence in one of our food service locations. What You'llLearn During the 6-week training program, you will gain practical experience in:

• Kitchen operations and daily food service management
• Food cost analysis and profitability management
• Labor scheduling and productivity planning
• Inventory control, ordering, and waste reduction
• Food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance
• Menu execution and product quality standards
• Sales growth strategies and food service merchandising
• Team development, coaching, and performance management
• Customer service and guest experience excellence
• Recruiting, hiring, and employee retention strategies
• Driving operational excellence and kitchen profitability

Key Responsibilities - After successful completion of training, Kitchen Managers will be expected to:

• Lead and motivate kitchen teams to achieve operational and financial goals
• Manage all aspects of food service profitability, including sales, labor, food costs, and waste control
• Monitor and analyze department performance to identify opportunities for improvement
• Recruit, train, coach, and develop kitchen team members
• Create a positive, accountable, and results-driven work environment
• Ensure exceptional food quality and customer service standards are maintained
• Oversee inventory management, ordering, and product rotation procedures
• Maintain compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and health regulations
• Drive sales growth through product execution, promotions, and guest satisfaction initiatives
• Effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced food service environment

Qualifications Required

• High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
• Minimum 1-3 years of restaurant, food service, convenience store, or hospitality leadership experience
• Strong leadership and team-building skills
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer systems
• Ability to obtain and maintain any required food safety certifications

Preferred

• Previous kitchen, restaurant, food service, or convenience store management experience
• ServSafe Manager Certification or equivalent food safety certification
• Experience managing food costs, labor budgets, and inventory controls
• Experience with food production planning and quality assurance programs

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the kitchen for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work safely around hot equipment, cooking surfaces, and refrigeration units
• Ability to perform all essential kitchen functions when needed
• Ability to work in varying temperature conditions, including coolers and freezers
