Electronic Technician
This role focuses on hands-on electronic assembly, calibration, functional testing, and validation of components and equipment. The Electronic Technician reads and updates blueprints and schematics, performs root cause analysis and failure investigations, and collaborates closely with engineering and production teams to improve product performance in the field. The position requires programming and operating a laser etching machine, performing basic soldering, and completing mechanical assembly tasks while working independently and staying on task with minimal supervision in a dedicated work area.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints and electronic schematics to assemble and validate products accurately.
- Perform root cause analysis and failure investigations on electronic assemblies and components.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to address failures observed in the field and propose potential fixes.
- Calibrate, functionally test, and validate electronic assemblies to ensure they meet performance and quality standards.
- Program and operate a laser etching machine to apply serial numbers and logos on aluminum and other materials.
- Work through issues in a relatively new division by updating blueprints and refining processes as products evolve.
- Rapidly implement design and process changes to improve items after performance feedback from the field.
- Operate independently in a tucked-away work area, maintaining focus and productivity with minimal supervision.
- Perform basic soldering of terminals and wires on larger components without the need for surface-mount techniques or microscopes.
- Carry out hands-on assembly work, including wiring, hooking up components, screwing parts down, and completing the interworking of monitor stands and similar assemblies.
- Use standard hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, and micrometers to assemble, adjust, and inspect components.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation consistent with a medical device-style production environment.
- Follow established procedures and quality standards for electronic assembly, testing, and documentation.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and electronic schematics.
- Experience with electronic assembly and working with hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, and micrometers.
- Ability to perform calibration, functional testing, and validation of electronic assemblies.
- Capability to conduct root cause analysis and failure investigations on electronic products.
- Experience operating a laser etching machine for marking serial numbers and logos on components.
- Ability to work independently, stay on task with minimal supervision, and remain productive in a secluded work area.
- Strong collaboration skills for working effectively with engineering and production teams.
- Comfort with hands-on work, including wiring, assembling, and securing components.
- Basic soldering skills for terminals and wires on larger parts (no SMT or microscope work required).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a cleanroom or medical-style production environment.
- Familiarity with IPC standards for electronic assembly.
- Experience using microscopes and precision measurement tools such as micrometers, where needed.
- Experience in medical assembly or similar high-precision manufacturing environments.
- Soldering experience is considered a strong plus.
- Comfort working in a division that is still being refined, including updating blueprints and processes as needed.
