The Director, Development and Partnerships leads UNA-USA's fundraising, donor relations, and partnership strategy to support long-term financial sustainability and advance the organization's mission, visibility, advocacy reach, membership engagement, national programming, and external partnerships. Working closely with the Executive Director and UN Foundation Development, the Director builds and manages a pipeline of donors, funders, sponsors, corporate partners, foundations, civic organizations, educational institutions, coalitions, and other mission-aligned stakeholders. The role designs and executes multi-year fundraising plans; oversees campaigns, grants, donor communications, events, and strategic partnerships; and coordinates proposals, reporting, internal alignment, and relationship follow-through.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement multi-year fundraising plans that meet or exceed revenue targets Lead annual funds, major gifts, capital campaigns, and special initiatives aligned with UNA-USA priorities and the United Nations Foundation's strategic plan Identify grant opportunities, oversee proposal development, and manage donor reporting Build and maintain relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate partners Develop compelling fundraising messages, stewardship plans, and impact reports Provide tools, training, and guidance to strengthen fundraising capacity across UNA-USA's national chapter network Plan and execute fundraising events that deepen donor engagement Identify new donor prospects and cultivate long-term relationships Draft and coordinate proposals, sponsorship packages, partnership briefs, donor and partner communications, presentations, reports, and other development and partnership materials, incorporating input from relevant UNA-USA and UN Foundation colleagues Maintain accurate records and pipeline activity in Salesforce and other relevant systems, including relationship history, proposals, funding commitments, agreements, reporting requirements, stewardship activities, and follow-up actions Produce portfolio reports, dashboards, revenue projections, briefing materials, and other analyses to support decision-making, track progress, identify opportunities and risks, and inform relationship strategies Coordinate internal planning for donor and partner engagement activities, events, campaigns, convenings, and related initiatives while maintaining familiarity with applicable UN Foundation processes, agreements, and partnership requirements Design and assess partnership opportunities, including sponsorships, program collaborations, advocacy engagement, convenings, campaigns, and other initiatives, considering mission alignment, audience reach, revenue potential, implementation requirements, and long‑term strategic value Strategic Engagement Coordinate and facilitate external engagement and development conversations for the Executive Director, including preparing briefing materials, managing follow-up, aligning internal stakeholders, and supporting the advancement of priority donor, funder, sponsor, partner, and senior stakeholder relationships Track relationship history, funding interests, partner priorities, meeting outcomes, commitments, deadlines, and follow-up actions Lead strategic follow-up and relationship management activities arising from donor, funder, sponsor, and partner engagements, ensuring relationships are coordinated, professional, mission‑aligned, and advanced through clear action plans, accountability, and next steps UN Foundation Coordination Serve as the primary liaison to UN Foundation Development leadership to align donor strategy, prospect engagement, partnership development, portfolio management, and fundraising priorities across UNA-USA and the Foundation Ensure UNA-USA development and partnership activity is consistent with UN Foundation systems, policies, donor engagement norms, and institutional priorities Share relevant pipeline, prospect, and relationship information with appropriate UN Foundation colleagues to support alignment and disciplined relationship management Other Duties Attend training sessions provided by UN Foundation development, agreements, finance, operations, and related teams to remain current on policies, procedures, systems, and compliance expectations Support special projects, events, campaigns, convenings, and cross‑functional initiatives as assigned Perform other duties as assignedSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This is an individual contributor role and does not currently have direct supervisory responsibilities EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION and/or EXPERIENCE To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily the requirements listed below are representative of the education and professional experience required Bachelor’s degree in public policy, international relations, nonprofit management, business, communications, philanthropy, or a related field, or commensurate professional experience Ten or more years of demonstrated experience in development, fundraising, donor relations, corporate partnerships, foundation relations, sponsorships, strategic partnerships, coalition engagement, external affairs, or nonprofit revenue generation Demonstrated experience cultivating, coordinating, and supporting relationships with donors, funders, sponsors, corporate partners, foundations, institutional supporters, or strategic partners Experience developing or coordinating partnerships that advance mission impact, audience engagement, public visibility, advocacy priorities, convenings, programmatic goals, or revenue objectives Experience managing donor or partner pipelines, including prospect research, cultivation support, proposal coordination, partnership concept development, stewardship, reporting, renewal tracking, and relationship follow-through Experience working closely with senior leaders who serve as primary external relationship holders Experience with CRM platforms such as Salesforce and advocacy or engagement platforms such as EveryAction preferredSKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to prepare proposals, briefing materials, donor and partner communications, presentations, concept notes, reports, and follow‑up correspondence Strong project management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple internal stakeholders around time‑sensitive donor, proposal, sponsorship, and partnership opportunities Strong relationship management skills across donors, sponsors, partners, and other stakeholders Ability to identify and evaluate funding and partnership opportunities based on alignment with UNA-USA priorities, stakeholder interests, audience reach, reputational considerations, and organizational capacity Excellent judgment and discretion in managing sensitive donor, funder, sponsor, partner, and institutional information Ability to work effectively across senior leadership, development, programs, advocacy, membership, communications, finance, agreements, and external stakeholder groups Ability to advance complex opportunities from concept through execution while maintaining clear internal alignment, accountability, and follow‑through Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Google Drive, and related collaboration tools Ability to meet regular attendance and punctuality requirements Willingness to travel periodically Commitment to inclusion, collaboration, integrity, and the missions of the United Nations Foundation and UNA‑USAWORK ENVIRONMENT
