New graduate nurses are hired in cohorts. The cohort members attend nursing orientation together, followed by a series of educational days over 6 months. These activities, besides being educational, also bring the group together promoting social support and relevant discussion of common situations encountered in the first year of practice. The new graduate nurse residency includes a variety of experiential learning modalities that provide opportunities for assimilation and application of clinical theory and concepts to bedside practice.

The selected candidates must make a two-year commitment to the unit that invests in training them. Upon completion of orientation, the nurse’s shift will be determined and assume positions of 36 Hour Night shift per week with every third weekend and every other holiday.
