Job Title: Computed Tomography Technologist Profession: CT Technologist Specialty: CT Technologist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:45 AM - 07:15 PM Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Current ARRT (R) certification and registration Certifications: ARRT (CT) certification preferred or required based on facility requirements; Current BLS certification Must-Have: - Strong experience performing routine and contrast-enhanced CT examinations - Experience with IV contrast administration and recognition of contrast reactions - Knowledge of radiation safety and dose-reduction practices - Ability to work independently and prioritize examinations based on patient acuity - Strong communication, critical-thinking, organization, and time-management skills Description: The Computed Tomography Technologist (CT Tech) performs high-quality diagnostic CT examinations for patients across varying levels of acuity. The CT Tech is responsible for proper patient positioning, selecting appropriate imaging protocols, and administering contrast when indicated. Maintaining radiation safety standards and producing diagnostic-quality images for physician interpretation are essential duties. The CT Tech performs routine and advanced CT examinations according to physician orders and established imaging protocols. They conduct CT imaging for inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, and trauma patients. Verifying patient identity, physician orders, clinical history, allergies, and appropriate screening requirements before examinations is crucial. Positioning patients accurately and selecting appropriate scanning parameters to obtain diagnostic-quality images is required. The CT Tech performs contrast-enhanced and non-contrast CT examinations. Establishing or assessing IV access and administering IV contrast according to facility protocols and scope of practice is part of the role. Monitoring patients for contrast reactions and responding appropriately to adverse events is necessary. Performing CT angiography (CTA) examinations when required is expected. The CT Tech efficiently performs trauma and emergency CT examinations while maintaining image quality and patient safety. Utilizing radiation dose-reduction techniques and following ALARA principles is important. Recognizing imaging artifacts and making appropriate technical adjustments to improve image quality is part of the job. The CT Tech performs post-processing, multiplanar reconstructions, and other advanced imaging techniques as needed. They review completed studies for technical quality before releasing images for physician interpretation. Effective communication with radiologists, nurses, emergency department staff, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team is essential. Maintaining accurate documentation within the electronic medical record, PACS, and radiology information systems is part of the role. Maintaining CT equipment and reporting equipment or safety concerns appropriately is required. Following infection-prevention, patient-identification, radiation-safety, and contrast-administration standards is crucial. Assisting with maintaining efficient patient throughput in a fast-paced imaging department is expected.
