This role supports a fast-paced food manufacturing facility by performing industrial mechanical maintenance on high-speed production and packaging equipment. The position focuses on mechanical troubleshooting, repairs, preventative and predictive maintenance, and improving equipment reliability while consistently adhering to GMP and food safety standards. You will work with conveyors, wrapping and packaging machinery, pneumatic systems, and a variety of production equipment to minimize downtime and ensure smooth, efficient operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative, predictive, and emergency maintenance on production and packaging equipment to maximize uptime and equipment reliability.
• Troubleshoot and repair a variety of conveyor systems, including steel belt conveyors, plastic belting, rolling conveyors, and other material handling equipment.
• Maintain and repair high-speed wrapping and packaging machines to ensure accurate, efficient, and continuous operation.
• Diagnose and repair molding and forming equipment used in the production process.
• Troubleshoot pneumatic systems, including cylinders, valves, sensors, and air-driven equipment, to resolve performance issues.
• Service motors, drives, bearings, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, and other mechanical power transmission components.
• Inspect equipment regularly to identify potential failures, recommend improvements, and reduce unplanned downtime.
• Use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and maintenance shop equipment safely and effectively.
• Perform equipment changeovers and assist with machinery installations and upgrades as needed.
• Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
• Maintain full compliance with GMP, food safety, and safety regulations at all times.
• Support different mechanical maintenance teams across the facility, including general factory equipment, specialized production lines, and wrapping operations, as needed.
• Work collaboratively with production and maintenance colleagues to prioritize work, respond to breakdowns, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance, millwright, or related mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills with production and packaging machinery.
• Hands-on experience with steel belt conveyor systems, plastic conveyor belting, and rolling conveyors.
• Experience maintaining and repairing packaging and wrapping equipment in a high-speed environment.
• Proficiency with pneumatic systems and components, including cylinders, valves, and air-driven equipment.
• Experience working with sensors such as photo eyes and proximity sensors for equipment control and feedback.
• Ability to service motors, bearings, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, and other mechanical power transmission components.
• Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and food manufacturing environments.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
• Comfort and proficiency using a wide variety of maintenance hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively within a team environment.
• Ownership of personal tools suitable for industrial mechanical maintenance work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a high-speed food manufacturing facility or similar regulated production environment.
• Exposure to robotics, ovens, industrial dishwashers, and other large factory equipment is beneficial.
• Experience working across multiple production lines, including molding, wrapping, and gear-driven machinery.
• Flexibility to work across different maintenance teams focused on general factory equipment, pneumatic-intensive lines, gear-driven machinery, and wrapping/conveyor operations.
• Willingness to support weekend coverage on an every-other-weekend rotation as required by production needs.
• Openness to working any of the three shifts when transitioning to permanent employment, with shifts bid based on seniority.
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with production staff and documenting maintenance work clearly.
• Commitment to cleanliness, quality, and safety in accordance with food manufacturing standards.

Work Environment

The role is based in a fast-paced food manufacturing facility that operates under strict GMP and food safety standards. You will work on and around high-speed production and packaging lines where cleanliness, product quality, and safety are essential. Maintenance teams are organized into multiple groups that support general factory equipment such as ovens, industrial dishwashers, robotics, and specialized lines focused on pneumatics, gear-driven machinery, and peanut butter wrapping and molding operations. The facility runs three shifts: 1st (6:30 a.m. 2:30 p.m.), 2nd (2:30 p.m. 10:30 p.m.), and 3rd (10:30 p.m. 6:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday). Current contract openings are on 2nd and 3rd shift across several teams, and most teams operate on an every-other-weekend schedule. Hiring classes are posted internally, and permanent roles require openness to all three shifts, which are awarded by bid based on seniority. You will work in a manufacturing setting that requires appropriate industrial work attire, adherence to safety procedures, and consistent attention to maintaining a clean and orderly work area.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hershey, PA.

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
