Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Direct reports: Accounting Coordinator

Position Summary:

The Controller plays a critical role in overseeing the financial health and operational efficiency of the Market and Cannabis divisions. This role is responsible for managing all accounting, budgeting, and payroll functions while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal controls. The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience in accounting—preferably in a leadership capacity—along with a strong understanding of financial reporting, tax compliance, and systems management.

Key Responsibilities:

·        Oversee all accounting operations including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory standards.

·        Monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting and budget management.

·        Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports; track organizational financial performance against established benchmarks and budgets.

·        Design and maintain internal policies and procedures to improve financial accuracy, transparency, and efficiency.

·        Provide effective leadership and support to the accounting team, promoting a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement.

·        Coordinate and support annual audits, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of all required documentation to external auditors.

·        File federal, state, local, and Tribal tax documents in compliance with applicable laws and deadlines.

·        Liaise with software vendors to manage and enhance the functionality of accounting systems; recommend and implement system upgrades where appropriate.

·        Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

·        Must be at least 18 years of age.

·        Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

·        Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience.

·        Experience in a Tribal government or enterprise setting is highly desirable.

·        CPA certification is strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

·        Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.

·        Skilled in 10-Key operations with high speed and accuracy.

·        Strong knowledge of GAAP and general financial/cost accounting principles.

·        Proficiency with accounting software; experience with Microix and MIP Fund Accounting is a plus.

·        Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to data integrity and accuracy.

·        Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

·        Strong team player with the ability to collaborate across departments.

·        Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

·        Capable of lifting and moving items weighing up to 30 pounds.

·        Must successfully pass a thorough criminal background check and oral drug screening.
