What You Will Do:

Draw quality blood samples from patients across various age groups, including pediatric and geriatric populations, ensuring safety and comfort during the collection process.

Prepare specimens for laboratory testing according to established procedures, maintaining specimen integrity from collection to lab receipt.

Verify patient demographic and identifying information, including initialing and signing specimens to ensure accurate labeling and tracking.

Follow all safety protocols, proper infection control procedures, and confidentiality standards to maintain a secure and professional environment.

Maintain detailed, accurate records of specimen collection, labeling, and patient interactions to support lab processing and compliance requirements.

Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients, explaining procedures and addressing any concerns to foster a trusting atmosphere.

Demonstrate leadership behaviors and a commitment to process excellence while working independently or collaboratively as needed.

Adapt to varying work locations, including patient service centers and clinical settings, with flexible hours that may include weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.

Keep up-to-date with department policies, health and safety guidelines, and continuing education to ensure high-quality performance.

Required Skills:

Proven proficiency in venipuncture and capillary collection techniques, with experience spanning pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.

Strong attention to detail for accurate specimen labeling, documentation, and data entry.

Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with diverse patient populations.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing multiple priorities efficiently.

Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, infection control, and confidentiality standards (HIPAA compliance preferred).

Competency in utilizing electronic health records or laboratory information systems for data entry and record keeping.

Physical ability to perform blood draws, including standing for extended periods, and handling multiple collections simultaneously.

Nice to Have Skills:

Medical assistant, paramedic, or related healthcare training.

Phlebotomy certification (certification preferred but not mandatory).

Experience working in high-volume patient settings such as patient service centers or outpatient clinics.

Bilingual abilities to assist diverse patient populations.

Familiarity with lab processing procedures and specimen handling techniques.

Preferred Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

1-3 years of phlebotomy experience, particularly in pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.

Additional experience in a patient service center environment is highly desirable.

Keyboard/data entry skills to ensure accurate and timely record updates.

Other Requirements:

Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record if travel between multiple locations is necessary.

Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on staffing needs.

Ability to handle physically demanding tasks, including standing for extended durations and handling multiple specimens.
