Position Associate/Full Professor of Surgery – Chief, Section of Colorectal Surgery Division: Surgical Oncology Department: Surgery University: University of California, San Francisco Position Overview The Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at UCSF is seeking a full‑time academic colorectal surgeon to serve as the Section Chief of Colorectal Surgery. Candidates must be board certified by the American Board of General Surgery and have completed a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery or in Complex General Surgical Oncology with a dedicated fellowship in colorectal surgery. The selected candidate will demonstrate an aptitude for providing evidence‑based, high‑quality care in clinical teams, enhancing the patient experience with a commitment to patient safety and satisfaction. Responsibilities Oversee all clinical, academic, research, and administrative activities in the Section of Colorectal Surgery. Lead a team of nationally recognized surgeons and healthcare professionals, promoting innovative surgical techniques and advancing research in malignant and benign colorectal surgery. Provide exceptional patient care and collaborate with other departments and divisions to promote interdisciplinary approaches to patient care, research, and education. Build and maintain the Section’s program, demonstrating proven leadership, communication, and collaboration skills. Mentor and educate surgery residents, medical students, and other trainees, actively participating in the Division’s and Department’s training programs. Serve on University service activities, faculty meetings, monthly Grand Rounds, and M&M conferences; contribute to quality assurance programs and continuing education. Advance the mission of the Section and Division of Surgical Oncology. Qualifications & Requirements Board certified in general surgery by the American Board of General Surgery. Completed a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery or Complex General Surgical Oncology with a dedicated fellowship in colorectal surgery. National reputation for clinical excellence and scholarship in colorectal disease. Demonstrated program‑building experience, effective leadership, communication, and collaboration skills. Research productivity with dedicated time for research. Recognized skills in education of surgery residents and medical students. Commitment to research, teaching, and community services that contribute to excellence. Compensation The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay based on rank and step. The minimum base salary range for this position is $190,600 – $405,900. The position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan, which provides eligibility for additional compensation.
