Senior Staff Accountant

Schedule: Full-time, in-office Position Overview Our client is seeking an Accountant II to join a growing accounting team supporting multiple business entities. This role offers exposure to a broad range of accounting functions, making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety and wants to build expertise across financial reporting, fixed assets, project accounting, tax support, and operational accounting. This individual will play an important role in the monthly close process while partnering with internal departments to maintain accurate financial records, support compliance initiatives, and improve accounting processes. During busy periods, this position will also provide backup support for accounts payable operations. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Primary Responsibilities General Accounting Assist with monthly close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and account analysis. Prepare and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts. Support intercompany accounting and resolve reconciling items. Maintain organized documentation supporting financial transactions. Provide assistance during financial audits and reporting projects. Tax & Regulatory Support Compile information and schedules needed for tax filings and external advisors. Assist with documentation for tax-related requests and compliance activities. Maintain records related to fixed assets, entity reporting, and other tax-sensitive transactions. Help coordinate filing deadlines and outstanding compliance items. Capital Projects & Fixed Assets Track capital expenditures and construction projects from initiation through capitalization. Maintain fixed asset records, additions, transfers, retirements, and related documentation. Review project costs for proper classification and coding. Assist with asset-related reporting, including property tax and insurance information. Partner with project teams to ensure capital spending is accurately recorded. Accounts Payable Backup Provide invoice processing support during periods of increased workload or team absences. Review coding, approvals, and supporting documentation for vendor invoices. Assist with resolving invoice discrepancies and vendor questions. Ensure project- and asset-related invoices are accurately classified within the accounting system. Contribute to improvements in AP workflows and consistency. Process Improvement Recommend enhancements to accounting procedures and documentation. Participate in cross-functional projects involving finance, payroll, treasury, and operations. Support cross-training initiatives to improve team flexibility. Assist with system implementations, data cleanup, reporting enhancements, and other special projects. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. Approximately 2-5 years of professional accounting experience. Exposure to tax accounting is a plus. CPA license or active pursuit of certification is highly preferred. Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations. Background in fixed assets, capital projects, or construction-in-progress accounting is preferred. Experience working within an ERP system; NetSuite experience is a plus. Experience supporting multiple legal entities is beneficial. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to manage routine responsibilities while adapting to changing priorities. Effective communicator who enjoys collaborating across departments.
