HVAC MechanicMaintain, repair, and install heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems throughout the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in district facilities.Education/CertificationHigh school diploma or GEDValid Texas driver's licenseReclamation and Recycling Services Technician and Reclamation and Recycling CertificationSpecial Knowledge/SkillsKnowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniquesAbility to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference materialAbility to perform mathematical calculationsAbility to diagnose and resolve problemsAbility to use hand and power toolsExperienceOne year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experienceMajor Responsibilities and DutiesMaintenance and RepairDiagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems, including rooftop equipment.Install new heating and air conditioning systems and components.Relocate and expand existing HVAC systems as needed.Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.Fabricate, assemble, and install duct work and piping according to specifications and code.Wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity controls according to wiring schematics.Maintain freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.SafetyClean work areas, machines, tools and equipment.Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.Professional Growth and DevelopmentParticipate in professional learning activities related to HVAC and energy management programs.CommunicationArticulate the district's mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental FactorsTools/Equipment Used: Mechanical and electrical testing equipment, hand tools, ladder, scaffolding, district vehiclePosture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twistingMotion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion and extension, overhead reaching, visual acuity, drivingLifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance and more than 30 pounds with assistanceEnvironment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, electrical hazards; work irregular and prolonged hours; districtwide travelMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with interruptions
