Surgical Tech II - Labor and Delivery - Casual/PRN

Job Summary: Location: Methodist Women's Hospital, 707 N. 190th Plaza - Elkhorn, NE. Work Schedule: Casual position with 12‑hour shifts (7:00am‑7:00pm or 7:00pm‑7:00am) on an “as needed” basis. Allied health professional assisting physicians and maintaining a sterile field during surgical procedures by applying consistent aseptic techniques. Responsibilities Perform preoperative preparation: review physician preference list, assemble supplies and equipment, open sterile supplies, transfer medications, and communicate clearly with perioperative team. Act as scrub person during operative procedures: prepare, monitor, and maintain the sterile field; perform scrub duties accurately and timely; wear appropriate PPA; organize and maintain sterile instruments; perform counts according to policy; assist with draping and cleaning the room. Apply base knowledge and principles during intraoperative procedure: anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, pharmacology, and principles of sterile technique. Follow policy and procedure for intraoperative surgical procedures: participate in surgical time‑out, fire risk assessment, case summary, specimen labeling, hand‑off, and disposition. Demonstrate collegiality and leadership: participate in performance improvement activities, report issues, adjust hours, mentor preceptors, and maintain certification. Provide age‑specific patient care: ensure comfort and understanding according to population criteria. Precepting: conduct needs assessments, one‑on‑one and group training, document core competencies, and coordinate with resource coordinators. Qualifications Education : Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program (or Military Surgical Technology program for MJE Surgery Main). Experience : 2+ years of current operating room experience for MH, WH, MFH & MPC; 1+ year for MJE Surgery Main; current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) meeting level I criteria. License/Certifications : Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) required; CST preferred. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities : Perform mathematical computations; promote positive patient relations; work irregular hours; work in team environment; communicate with staff, patients, and physicians. Physical Requirements : Moderate weight demands (≤50lb); various activities including climbing, typing, kneeling, balancing, lifting, standing, and walking; noise, temperature, and sharps hazards. Job Hazards : Exposure to electrical shock, radiation (X‑ray, CT, Gamma Knife), chemical agents, biological agents, sharps, and other OR hazards.
