Full-Time, Monday-Thursday, 7:30AM – 4:30PM, with occasional nights and weekends, on a volunteer basisJOB SUMMARY
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will develop and implement comprehensive, family centered developmental evaluation, assessment, and therapy programs for children with developmental delays, who are enrolled at the Children’s Developmental Center (CDC) utilizing a direct services, parent coaching, model. We are passionate about the work being done and have a profound desire to help children achieve their potential. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Not An Exhaustive List) Promotes and adheres to CDC safety work rules and regulations. To perform the essential functions of this position, regular and punctual attendance is expected. The essential functions, responsibilities, and duties of the SLP are: Identify and evaluate present levels of development in appropriate skills areas, within the scope of an SLP, for children referred to the program, utilizing standardized evaluation tools, criterion-referenced tools, standardized screening tools, review of medical records, parent report, and observations of children in a variety of age-appropriate settings. Develop Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) in appropriate skill areas for children on their caseload as part of an interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary team. Participate in transition planning with family and Family Resources Coordinator. Be familiar with IFSP procedures and eligibility requirements for Washington State including but not limited to IDEA Part C (and B), DDA, and ADA. Provide, coordinate, plan, implement, and monitor speech language pathology services to children and families enrolled at CDC (as EI students) in natural environments (family/foster homes, childcare programs, and other community settings where families spend time). Provide, coordinate, plan, implement, and monitor speech language pathology services to children and families enrolled at CDC (as private pay students) in designated learning areas at CDC. Educate team members in aspects of communication and feeding development and interventions, as necessary and appropriate; reinforce outcomes developed by other providers as necessary and appropriate. Include parents and caregivers in appropriate aspects of program planning and services. Collaborate with outside service providers and community partners as needed and requested; make recommendations to medical professionals when additional services or assessments are needed. Participate in team meetings, staff meetings, department meetings, planning/visioning days, and professional development opportunities. Utilize professional development opportunities as required for continuing education requirements to maintain ASHA certification and state licensure. Use the EHR system, AdvancedMD, for scheduling and maintaining electronic copies of family information, medical history, evaluation documentation, ongoing assessments, chart notes, goals and objectives, and transition reports in each child’s file at CDC in conjunction with the FRC’s and in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Document chart notes and attendance for billing purposes to CDC funders for reimbursement of services rendered to eligible children and families. Participate in annual reviews with your supervisor, including but not limited to goal setting, monthly meetings, reflective supervision, and performance review. Supervise speech-language pathology assistants, interns and/or clinical fellows. In performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to: Maintain an understanding and knowledge base of early childhood development, current early intervention practices, and best practices within your discipline. Have familiarity with federal and Washington State policies and procedures for eligibility and implementation of birth to three early intervention services. Follow ASHA’s current code of ethics. Perform quality work within deadlines. Works effectively as a team contributor on all assignments. Works independently while understanding the necessity for communicating effectively with other employees, customers, and suppliers. RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Advanced degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university program, Master’s Degree required. State of Washington Speech-Language Pathology license (DOH). Registration with and membership in the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA); current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) with ASHA. State of Washington Driver’s license and reliable, insured vehicle; proof of insurance required. DSHS background check approval. Successful completion of Infant/Toddler CPR and Basic First Aid. Completion of Bloodborne Pathogens training. Experience with infants and toddlers with special health care needs and their families. A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards, confidentiality, and ensuring equity and inclusion in a diverse workplace. Ability to establish and maintain trusted professional working relationships. Ability to stay organized, delegate, and meet deadlines a fast-paced environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, databases, and other related software. Must have the ability to commute locally for events (up to 10% of the time.) If commuting via personal vehicle, must maintain a WA State Driver’s license and vehicle insurance. Due to our work with vulnerable populations, a background check including criminal record history, and pre- employment drug screening is required. Due to working in a building with access to children, immunization history and a negative Tuberculin test is required. COVID-19 vaccination is required.
