Manage a small group of employees to ensure all events run smoothly.Job DescriptionEssential FunctionsAttend meetings with employees regarding their catering requestManaging the catering teamOrganizing catering calendar and special eventsAnswering emails from employees and catering tickets that are created through the event toolPutting together the catering order on the catering calendarContacting employees regarding their catering request and get the proper approval/info to support the eventUpdated the event ticket for table/power needs (if needed) to support in house cateringSupporting Sol on catering requestPlacing pastry orders with the Pastry Team by Thursday for the next weekPlacing orders with Canteen for sodas/water request by Thursday for the next weekPlacing orders with Willow's Market for alcohol orders by Thursday for the next weekSend employees their alcohol and non-alcohol receipts as soon as you receive them from vendorMake sure team returns leftover alcohol to employees by the end of the weekCreating catering packets for teamSchedule setup, delivery, and pick-up for cateringMeet with team to go over catering packets and dutiesCommunicating with our team about last min. add-on'sWorking on catering event request for next week and updating packets with last min. add-on'sSending friendly calendar invites to inform chef's about high profile events happening inside of the café, when food trucks will be on hack square during service, & when there are more than 15 external guests that will dine at the caféKnowledge and SkillsExcellent culinary skillsInterpersonal and organizational skillsUtilization of knife cuts in a safe, efficient mannerSense of urgencyExcellent verbal skillsExcellent multi-tasking skillsProfessional appearanceAbility to move throughout the café and kitchenKnowledge of safety and sanitation in the work placeHigh volume production & large batch cookingAbility to handle kitchen equipment and tools safelyEvent Management skills such as how to read a BEO, ordering, set up and break down of eventsManagement experienceEducation and Work ExperienceCulinary Degree (preferred but not required)Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferred3-5 years' experience in a Catering Manager roleWork EnvironmentThe work environment for Catering Manager includes the following large kitchen environment elements and exposuresFast paced kitchenHigh sense of urgencyModerate to high noise levelExposure to soap and cleaning solutionsSlippery/uneven surfaces may be encounteredFrequently moving from cold freezer to normal kitchen environmentRequirementsMust have and maintain an active Food Handlers Card, as required by the California Health Department.Physical DemandsSome heavy lifting (may lift 10-50 lbs.) and possible moving of equipment requiredSpecific vision abilities required by this position include close vision for safe navigation of work area and use of equipmentHeavy and repetitive hand and arm motion involved in production and clean upStanding, walking, bending/twisting, and balance are all required to perform job taskReaching across surfaces while moving containers, reaching above shoulders for containers for removal and storageStanding a minimum of 8 hours a dayCarrying containers of different sizes and different types of product of all shapes and sizesRemoving hot items from ovenThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
