Job Title: Crane Technician Job Description

This role focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining overhead cranes and hoists across Oregon and Southwest Washington, primarily in the Portland and Southwest Washington areas. You will perform field maintenance and service on overhead crane systems and material handling equipment, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operation while delivering excellent customer service and clear communication.

• Troubleshoot, repair, and inspect overhead cranes, hoists, and related material handling systems in the field.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities on cranes and hoists to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Service overhead crane systems by performing quality installations, completing OSHA/ANSI equivalent inspections, documenting and completing warranty work, and responding to repair calls.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and three-phase motor issues on heavy equipment.
• Support customers by effectively interfacing with both the customer and office staff to coordinate repairs and service activities.
• Evaluate equipment condition and provide clear recommendations regarding required repairs, upgrades, or system improvements.
• Maintain strong customer relationships by examining complaints, identifying root causes, proposing solutions, and suggesting improved methods and techniques.
• Document all service and installation activities by accurately completing forms, reports, inspection checklists, and any required paperwork.
• Build and maintain customer confidence by providing timely responses, keeping customers informed of issues and progress, and completing jobs within agreed timeframes.
• Maintain a professional presentation at all times, including punctuality, appearance, communication, and organization on job sites and in the field.
• Operate a company vehicle safely to travel to and from customer locations within the assigned territory.
• Work independently in the field while managing time, priorities, and deadlines effectively.
• Perform work at heights safely and in compliance with safety standards and company policies.
• Adhere to OSHA/ANSI criteria when performing inspections and ensure all work meets applicable safety and regulatory requirements.

• Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment, particularly overhead cranes and material handling systems.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in hydraulics, three-phase motors, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits and diagnose complex electrical issues.
• Experience performing inspections in accordance with OSHA/ANSI criteria.
• Good driving record and ability to safely operate a company vehicle to and from job sites.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining quality and safety.
• Capability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with customers, colleagues, and office staff.
• Ability to work at heights safely and comfortably.
• Willingness to travel within Oregon and Southwest Washington, with occasional extended trips of up to a week when required.
• Strong safety orientation and commitment to following all safety procedures and regulations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling customer and company information.
• Customer service orientation with a focus on quality, results, and building long-term relationships.

• Ability to fabricate and weld structures.
• Experience assembling and repairing complex machinery.
• Strong organizational skills for managing documentation, inspections, and service reports.
• Ability to suggest system improvements and process enhancements based on field observations.
• Comfort using inspection checklists, forms, and reporting tools to document work performed.

The primary home base is a shop located in Vancouver, Washington, which serves as the official work location for administrative and tax purposes. Most work takes place on the road at customer sites throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. Overnight travel is very rare, but certain projects may require travel of up to a week to complete a job. You will operate a company-provided work truck to reach job sites and perform field maintenance and service. The role involves working at heights, in industrial environments, and around heavy equipment, requiring consistent adherence to safety practices and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Hours and shifts are aligned with customer needs and project schedules, and the position requires a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the company at customer locations.

This is a Permanent position based out of Vancouver, WA.

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $110000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
