ELECTRIC GENERATION SYSTEM SPECIALIST I

California Energy Commission Electric Generation System Specialist I – Classification: JC-521918 Salary Range: $8,983 – $11,115 per month. Final Filing Date: 7/17/2026. Under the direction of the Clean Energy Infrastructure Branch Supervisor, the Electric Generation System Specialist I performs the most complex, sensitive, and responsible work, requiring a high level of knowledge, skill, and ability well above the journeyman level. The incumbent serves as the prime resource and lead for the California Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) program, conducting technical analysis on renewable energy generation, grid operations, electricity markets and environmental impacts to the state. Responsibilities include: providing expert guidance and policy analysis related to the eligibility and certification of complex renewable generation facilities and technology types; leading staff in updating the RPS Eligibility Guidebook; coordinating statewide policy and statutory interpretations; analyzing legislative bills and proposals; serving as the primary point of contact for the RPS program; leading briefings, public workshops, delegations and cross‑agency coordination.
