Research Administration Hub Manager

Position Title Research Administration Hub Manager Location Raleigh, NC Job Summary The Research Administration Hub Manager provides overall operational leadership, personnel management, and regulatory governance for an assigned hub of departmentally embedded Sponsored Research Administrators (SRAs). The primary purpose of the position is to ensure uniform, high‑quality delivery of both pre‑award and post‑award services across their assigned cluster of academic departments. Responsibilities Personnel leadership: supervise permanent SRAs, assign portfolios, counsel and discipline employees, develop work plans, and conduct performance appraisals. Dynamic workload allocation: monitor proposal and award metrics, redistribute research portfolios during peak periods, and balance workloads to meet SLA targets. Performance standardization and mentorship: establish KPIs, provide training and coaching, and cultivate a high‑performing team. Compliance and risk management: interpret federal, state, and university fiscal policies, serve as first escalation point for high‑risk issues, and maintain audit readiness and internal controls. Strategic operations: monitor SLA adherence, collaborate with department heads and financial leads, and represent the hub on cross‑institutional committees and central offices. Training and process optimization: lead onboarding, continuous training on research administration portals, and implement improvements to workflow efficiency. Other Responsibilities Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on organizational needs and evolving priorities. Qualifications Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework and three years of professional accounting experience, at least one of which is supervisory. Minimum Experience: 5 years of progressive experience in sponsored research management within a tier‑one research university or complex research enterprise, and 3 years of supervisory experience. Expertise: public fund accounting principles, budgetary control, audit guidelines, federal circulars, and advanced technical proficiency in ERP platforms (PeopleSoft Financials and HR), institutional research portals (RED), and data tracking tools (Excel, Word, Access). Communication: excellent executive‑level written and verbal communication skills, leadership, organizational, and complex problem‑solving skills. Customer service: proven ability to operate effectively and maintain high customer‑service standards in a matrixed or shared‑services environment. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of financial and research administration experience using NC State University financial modules. Completion of the Research Administration Management Program (RAMP) training or equivalent certificate. Active Certified Research Administrator (CRA) credential.
