About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required. Must have at least 1 year of inpatient hematology oncology experience. License: Valid nursing license required. Certifications: BLS ACLS ONS Chemotherapy Certification NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with leukemia and blood dyscrasias within the last 3 years. Current specialty experience required for clinical evaluation. Description: This position is focused on caring for newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients. The unit provides a high volume of blood products, IV antibiotics, and electrolytes. There is heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention. Staffing ratios aim for 1:4 but may reach 1:5 depending on circumstances. Self-scheduling requests will be accepted to accommodate preferred schedules. Candidates may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination based on department needs. The first week consists of day shift orientation. On-unit orientation with a preceptor is scheduled for the second week. Clinical skills required include telemetry interpretation, IV therapy, and chemotherapy administration. Candidates must have experience with accessing and managing ports, central line care, and phlebotomy. Utilizing computerized charting is essential, and experience with electronic health records is required. References from professionals in a supervisory capacity are preferred. Knowledge of patient education and abnormal lab values is necessary. The unit may require travel among other medical-surgical oncology units as needed. Flexibility for variable weekend shifts based on unit needs is expected.
