Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Make a meaningful impact as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting students in an educational setting for the upcoming school year. In this contract position, you’ll bridge communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students and hearing peers and staff, enriching the learning environment for everyone. Work closely with two elementary school students, facilitating full participation and engagement in classroom activities.

Enjoy a consistent weekly schedule of 37.5 hours during the school year, helping foster inclusion and equity. Apply your skills in both American Sign Language (ASL) and English, ensuring clear and accurate translation in various situations while strictly adhering to professional confidentiality and ethical guidelines.

Qualifications:

• Valid licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter in the state
• Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English
• Experience working with school-aged children preferred
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards
• Resume ready for presentation at interview

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver accurate, real-time interpretation between ASL and English for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and staff
• Support students’ understanding of educational content and classroom interactions
• Facilitate communication during both academic instruction and extracurricular activities
• Uphold professional standards and foster a supportive learning environment
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to address student needs

This is a contract opportunity for the school year, with assignments running from August through May. You’ll build meaningful relationships with students and help them thrive academically and socially.
