Business Development Specialist

As a key member of Manatt’s dynamic business development team, you will provide strategic business development advice, facilitate business development and cross‑selling opportunities, enhance existing and new relationships, and raise the profile of key practices and professionals. Responsibilities Evaluate RFP and proposal opportunities and provide business development managers with go/no‑go recommendations. Develop tailored client proposals and RFP responses—strategizing with attorneys, identifying appropriate practices, drafting, editing, printing, proof‑reading, and distributing. Lead follow‑on activities to land the business. Identify new opportunities and develop strategic plans to raise the profile of the practices and partners. Coordinate with attorneys to identify topics for thought leadership, develop content, and collaborate with the marketing team on production. Write compelling Chambers and Legal 500 submissions, and maintain representative experience descriptions and capability statements to support proposals and pitches. Ensure client permissions for names, logos, and matter descriptions are accurately captured. Conduct competitor and client analysis; prepare background dossiers. Analyze and track business results (wins, losses, ROI) and prepare pipeline and win‑loss reports. Assess opportunities for speaking, sponsorship, and membership affiliation; provide go/no‑go recommendations. Assist in creating materials for new lateral hires and implementing integration initiatives. Collaborate with business development and marketing professionals; support cross‑platform projects. Develop project plans to ensure timely, within‑budget implementation. Ensure compliance with firm expense policies and procedures. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience in a professional services or law firm setting. Exceptional communication skills (writing, editing, proofreading) and strong analytical skills. Exceptional attention to detail. Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to meet deadlines. Extraordinary client service skills; strong influencing, negotiating, and persuasive communication. Technologically savvy; proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word). Proven ability to self‑manage and multitask in a fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities.
