A day in this role

You fly into a Symbotic customer site, badge in, and head straight to the high-density automation structure. Before the first pallet moves, you verify safety protocols with site leadership and confirm OSHA, Symbotic, and customer procedures are in place. As orders flow, you keep our Symbot Autonomous vehicle fleet tuned and online—diagnosing anomalies with schematics and test gear, completing upgrades, and commissioning new robots with on-site teams and Control Center Operators. When a vehicle stops in a restrictive area of the Symbotic Matrix select system, you execute a safe recovery, then document the event in the CMMS with parts, labor, and root cause. At shift end, you 5S the area, brief stakeholders on production impacts and ETAs, and prep for tomorrow’s inspections.

What you’ll own

• Uphold safety every minute—comply with OSHA, Symbotic, and customer procedures.
• Inspect, service, and upgrade Automated Storage & Retrieval System components and the Symbot Autonomous vehicle fleet.
• Calibrate, repair, replace, or modify fleet components to sustain continuous operations.
• Maintain expert-level knowledge of fleet hardware, software tools, and maintenance practices.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting with electro-mechanical diagrams and test equipment to resolve stoppages and anomalies.
• Receive and evaluate newly delivered robotic vehicles; verify shipping integrity and Structure Ready status.
• Execute scheduled inspections within target durations and capture complete maintenance records in the CMMS.
• Communicate production-impacting issues, recommended actions, and time-to-repair to all required stakeholders.
• Commission new robots in partnership with on-site personnel and Control Center Operators via system software and structure induction steps.
• Adapt quickly to changing priorities and evolving site needs.
• Perform work-area cleanup and parts removal in line with 5S.
• Carry out automated vehicle recovery inside the Symbotic Matrix select system, including in confined spaces.
• Other duties as assigned.

Travel

This is a fully field-based role requiring 100% travel across U.S. Symbotic customer sites.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent certification/experience in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing, or a related field (preferred).
• 5+ years working on mechanical automation systems.
• High-level robotic troubleshooting capability (programming experience is a plus) and strong electro-mechanical skills.
• Proficiency reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams; confident in electrical troubleshooting and repair.
• Proficient in all inspection functions; able to execute procedures from manuals independently.
• Experience training others and representing Field Service independently for remote support.
• Ability to lead small teams, delegate tasks, and flex beyond standard scope as operations require.
• Strong multitasking and clear written/verbal communication in English.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to fly/drive as needed.

Work environment & physical demands

• Remote, field-based position with travel up to 100%.
• Frequent walking and reaching; routine work at heights up to 45 feet and in 24-inch restrictive areas; standing; climbing/balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds.
• Strict adherence to Lockout/Tagout and fall protection protocols.
• Approximately 75% on active construction sites; PPE required (hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, safety glasses, hearing protection, fall protection such as a harness).
• Steep stairs and frequent stair use to access structure; regular proximity to elevated railings.
• Environmental exposure: protected from weather but not temperature; able to work in 105&degree; to 32&degree; Fahrenheit.

Compensation & benefits

The base range for this position in the posted location is $71,000.00 - $97,900.00. Actual base pay will depend on job-related skills, knowledge, and experience. A comprehensive package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO, and other benefits.
