Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) The Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) is proficient in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. This position performs appropriate clinical testing in compliance with department standards and documents in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. Job Functions Perform and document reason for visit, tangent screen visual fields, chief complaint, basic ocular motility, history of present illness, pupillary evaluation, basic review of systems, ocular surface assessment, review systemic and ocular medications, eye drop administration, record allergies, intraocular pressure measurements (Goldman, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care), pharmacy information, pachymetry, family, social, medical and ocular history, insertion and removal of hard and soft contact lenses, visual acuity at distance and near, color vision test, lensometry, stereopsis test, manual refraction, sensorimotor exam, confrontation visual fields, automated and manual perimetry (Humphrey visual fields), virtual reality visual fields, and Amsler grid visual fields. Provide support to providers, including documentation in patient charts and directed patient care. Adhere to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training. Comply with regulations, maintain patient confidentiality, and follow best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control. Attend educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned. Demonstrate high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness. Meet daily productivity goals and maintain JCAHPO certifications. Ensure all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order. Participate in assigned clinical research and maintain required certifications. Organize and stock rooms for daily clinical activities. Travel to satellite eye centers when necessary. Work evenings and weekends as needed. Perform organizational duties as assigned. Complete IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients. Facilitate motility exams. Support virtual care encounters and exams. Perform imaging including but not limited to fundus photos, OCTs, and slit lamp exams. Assist with training and onboarding of clinical support staff. Act as a super‑user for technology implementations, optimizations, and training initiatives. Act as a preceptor and trainer for team members. Serve as a lead technician providing oversight to clinical teams when assigned. Qualifications Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Certifications & Licensing: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA); Basic Life Support (BLS). Experience: 2 years of relevant experience.
