Adjunct, Languages and Linguistics

Position Title: Adjunct, Languages and Linguistics (Part Time) Department: Languages and Linguistics at Saint Joseph’s University. Summary: The department seeks highly qualified adjunct faculty to teach a variety of modern language courses each semester. Proficiency‑based teaching is essential. Preference is given to professionals with college teaching experience. Teaching load: Part‑time adjunct faculty may instruct 1–2 courses per semester on an “as needed” basis, offered during the day or evening. Courses include introductory, intermediate, or conversation levels and are taught in person. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teach a specified course/language. Prepare instructional materials. Provide support and guidance to students. Maintain one hour of office hours per course. Give prompt, regular feedback on student performance. Report mid‑semester and final grades electronically. Cooperate with course coordinators or other program faculty to ensure quality and consistency across the program. Languages taught: French, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Spanish. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Participate in planning and coordinating meetings. Cooperate in program assessments. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in a relevant world language or closely related field. Native or near‑native proficiency in the target language and in English. Ability to teach in person on campus according to the academic schedule. Preferred ABD or PhD in a relevant world language or closely related field. Native‑level proficiency in the target language.
