Full‑Time | 40 Hours/Week Benefits Start a Stable, Essential Career Serving Your Community! What You’ll Do Virginia DCJS Law Enforcement Certified Police Officer. Under general supervision, officers perform general law enforcement duties to preserve public peace, protect lives, property, and the rights of the public. Responsibilities include patrolling city streets, River Bank, City Parks, and neighborhoods to deter crime; apprehending and/or arresting violators or suspects; responding to calls for law enforcement assistance; investigating traffic accidents and enforcing traffic regulations; gathering information for criminal investigations; assuring appropriate custody and control of prisoners; attending court and mandatory off‑duty details. Patrol and Crime Prevention Reduce crime and maintain public peace by patrolling the city via various methods. Become familiar with patrol zones, geographic locations, offenders, and potential problem areas. Inspect troublesome areas and recommend security measures. Law Enforcement and Investigation Apprehend and arrest individuals violating laws and city codes. Conduct preliminary and follow‑up investigations for various criminal cases. Interview witnesses, informants, and suspects to gather information and evidence. Secure and analyze crime scenes, collect and process evidence. Traffic and Public Safety Enforce traffic and parking laws, including DUIs. Investigate traffic accidents and aid in controlling traffic. Assist disabled motorists and perform traffic control at public events. Community Engagement and Public Relations Engage in community service activities to promote the department's positive image. Investigate domestic disputes and make appropriate referrals. Investigate complaints and prepare reports for lost and found property and persons. Collaboration and Court Assistance Work with other law enforcement agencies to share information and apprehend suspects. Assist prosecutors in preparing cases for trial and serve as a credible witness in court. Seek and serve arrest and search warrants, and handle court documents. Administrative and Special Assignments Complete and review paperwork documenting activities and incidents. Maintain police vehicles and equipment. Perform administrative duties such as dispatching and records processing. Attend training and possibly serve in special roles like Field Training Officer or K‑9 unit. Why Join Our Team? Minimum Qualifications Current Virginia DCJS Certified officer with 3 years’ experience in law enforcement. No more than two moving violations within the previous 24 months. No current or previous revocations of suspension of license within the previous 60 months due to a moving violation. Undergo a background investigation including fingerprint‑based criminal history records inquiries to both the CCRE and FBI. Undergo a physical examination, subsequent to a conditional offer of employment. Polygraph examination. Must complete law‑fit course. This opportunity will remain open until filled. Questions?
