About Securityplus Federal Credit Union: Since 1938, Securityplus Federal Credit Union has proudly served our members and communities as a not-for-profit financial institution. Our mission is to empower people with financial security, providing the tools, resources, and guidance they need to reach their goals with confidence. Guided by our CARES values of Collaboration, Agility, Respect, Excellence, and Spirit, we create meaningful connections and deliver exceptional service in everything we do. We believe in doing what is right for our members, supporting one another as a team, and making a positive impact that extends far beyond our branches. Our vision is to be our members' first choice by providing experiences that inspire trust, confidence, and long-term relationships. When you join Securityplus, you become part of a purpose-driven team that believes in service, growth, and the power of community. About this Role: This position is open to candidates working hybrid from our Baltimore area offices or fully remote. We are glad to consider strong candidates in either arrangement. The Vice President, Controller owns the integrity of everything Securityplus reports about its financial position. You will lead the accounting function, run a disciplined close, certify our regulatory filings, and serve as a trusted financial voice on the senior management team and in front of the Board of Directors. This is a hands-on leadership seat, not a review and sign one. The best people in this role are precise without being slow, explain numbers clearly to colleagues who do not live in them, and build an accounting team that can be trusted to get it right the first time. If you bring deep financial institution accounting experience and the judgment to know what matters, we would love to hear from you. Requirements In this full-time exempt role, you'll be responsible for: Own the Numbers and the Close You will direct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement production and own general ledger governance across all reporting units, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, account certifications, and attestations. You will run a disciplined month-end and year-end close with clear calendars, ownership, and review standards, and oversee daily balancing, accounts payable, fixed assets, and cash management. Turn Results into Insight Producing accurate numbers is the floor, not the finish line. You will give the CFO and executive leadership timely insight into financial performance, emerging trends, risks, and opportunities, and translate what the results show into recommendations leaders can act on. Branch, product, and member profitability analysis sits here too. Keep Regulatory Reporting and Audit Readiness Strong You will prepare, review, and certify the NCUA 5300 Call Report, IRS 945, and related filings, backed by documentation that holds up to scrutiny. In collaboration with the Supervisory Committee, you will serve as a financial liaison with our external CPA firm, examiners, and internal audit. When findings come up, you will drive them to sustainable resolution by identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions, and establishing controls that prevent recurrence. Support Treasury, Investments, and ALM You will oversee accounting for the investment portfolio, borrowings, correspondent banking relationships, cash positions, and reserves, and produce ALM, liquidity, and interest rate risk reporting in support of the CFO, who retains executive ownership of liquidity, capital, and balance sheet strategy. You will work alongside executives and Board members on the Asset Liability Management Committee (ALCO), providing updates on the financial position, margin, and yield performance of the Credit Union, and you will administer CECL accounting with Lending and Risk Management. Run the Budget and Forecast Process You will lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process under the direction of the CFO, coordinating assumptions, timelines, departmental submissions, analysis, and reporting, and produce the projections, variance analysis, and scenario modeling that inform strategic, pricing, and capital decisions. Strengthen Controls and Systems You will develop and enforce accounting policies and procedures, design and monitor internal controls over financial reporting, and serve as the accounting owner for core, general ledger, reconciliation, and financial reporting systems, including conversions and upgrades. You will keep looking for automation that shortens the close and strengthens audit readiness. Build a High-Performing Accounting Function This is about more than managing the team you inherit. You will build and sustain a high-performing accounting function with clear roles, measurable expectations, appropriate segregation of duties, cross-training, individual development plans, and succession readiness, and you will contribute as a member of the senior management team to strategy and planning across the Credit Union. How Success is Measured Financial Integrity: Financial statements, general ledger, and Board reporting are complete, accurate, and delivered on schedule every cycle Regulatory and Audit Readiness: Filings are correct and supportable, and audit and examination findings are limited, remediated at the root cause, and prevented from recurring Close Discipline: Month-end and year-end close finishes within target timeframes with reconciliations and account certifications current Strategic Financial Insight: The CFO and executive leadership get early, useful reads on performance, trends, risks, and opportunities, not just reports Leadership of the Function: The accounting team is high-performing, accountable, cross-trained, developed, and ready for succession What You'll Bring to the Table: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Eight or more years of progressive accounting experience, including at least five years in a supervisory or management role. Accounting leadership experience within a credit union, bank, or other financial institution. Working knowledge of GAAP, NCUA regulations, and internal control frameworks applicable to financial institutions. Demonstrated ownership of financial institution regulatory reporting, including the NCUA 5300 Call Report or comparable filings. Proven general ledger governance and close ownership across multiple reporting units, including reconciliations and account certification. Experience coordinating audits and regulatory examinations and driving findings to sustainable resolution. Demonstrated success building, developing, and holding accountable an accounting team, including team members working from different locations. Proficiency with core banking and general ledger systems and financial reporting tools, including advanced spreadsheet skills. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial results clearly to audiences without a finance background. Sound judgment and the ability to formulate decisions using available information while maintaining confidentiality and integrity. Ability to be bonded by an insurance company. Flexibility to attend meetings or events that occur outside regularly scheduled work hours. Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, master's degree, or MBA. Experience with financial institution technology platforms, including Fiserv DNA and Prologue, and tools supporting reconciliation, CECL, budgeting, forecasting, profitability, investment accounting, and ALM. Experience leading or supporting a core system conversion or general ledger migration. Experience with investment, liquidity, correspondent banking, borrowings, and reserve accounting. Participation in professional development opportunities, including those from America's Credit Unions (formerly CUNA), Credit Union Executive Society (CUES), Graduate School of Banking, American Bankers Association, or similar industry financial management coursework. Why You'll Love Working at Securityplus: Competitive Salary & Benefits Package: We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive retirement benefits, including a 401(k) with company contributions, health, dental, and vision coverage, along with the opportunity to earn an annual performance bonus. Opportunities for Career Growth: We value internal development and offer opportunities for career progression into new roles and other departments. Work-Life Balance: We believe in work/life balance. No burnout allowed here! Culture of Fun and Collaboration: No egos, no endless meetings. Just a team of passionate people who genuinely love working together.
