Serving more than 2,500 youth annually across Brunswick, Cumberland, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, and Pender counties, we provide safe spaces, caring mentors, and life-changing programs that focus on academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character and citizenship, workforce readiness, and STEAM innovation through initiatives like our new SparkLab in New Hanover County and the Liberty Campus Teen & Youth Center in Jacksonville. Position Summary

The Community Engagement Manager plays an important role in expanding community awareness, engagement, and support for Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern North Carolina (BGCSENC). This position captures and shares stories that demonstrate our impact while helping cultivate meaningful relationships with donors, volunteers, community members, and future supporters.

Working closely with the Vice President of Resource Development, the Community Engagement Manager develops compelling content, supports donor stewardship initiatives, coordinates volunteer engagement, and supports and coordinates the organization's Young Professionals Advisory Board. This position also works with the Director of Corporate Partnerships & Events to help plan and support fundraising and community engagement events.

Serving as an ambassador for BGCSENC, the Community Engagement Manager helps connect the community to our mission through authentic storytelling, meaningful engagement opportunities, and exceptional donor and volunteer experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

1. Community Storytelling & Digital Engagement (35%)

Working under the creative direction of the Vice President of Resource Development, the Community Engagement Manager will:

• Visit Club sites to capture stories, photography, and video that showcase the impact of BGCSENC programs.
• Interview youth, families, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
• Develop compelling written stories highlighting youth success, donor impact, volunteer engagement, and organizational initiatives.
• Create engaging social media content for the Communications Manager to review and publish.
• Maintain an organized library of photos, videos, testimonials, and other digital assets.
• Update website content, news articles, blog posts, and impact stories to ensure information remains current and engaging.
• Assist with event photography, videography, and digital content creation.
• Support the development of newsletters, donor communications, annual reports, and other Resource Development materials by providing stories, photography, and content.
• Research & submit articles to community publications. 
• Submit special events to community calendars and media outlets and create Facebook event pages.
• Research and schedule speaking engagements for leadership with civic, church and other community groups.
• Ensure all content reflects BGCSENC brand standards, messaging, and mission.

2. Donor Engagement & Stewardship (20%)

Support meaningful donor experiences by:

• Coordinating quarterly impact reports and stewardship communications.
• Developing donor spotlight stories and impact updates.
• Assisting with donor recognition initiatives and appreciation activities.
• Creating thank-you videos and personalized stewardship content.
• Supporting donor visits and stewardship events.
• Assisting with donor communications that strengthen engagement and long-term relationships.

3. Young Professionals Advisory Board (15%)

Support and coordinate the development and growth of BGCSENC's Young Professionals Board by:

• Assisting in developing the charter, bylaws, annual/monthly calendars, etc.
• Assisting with recruitment of prospective members.
• Coordinating member orientation and onboarding.
• Planning networking, volunteer, and leadership development opportunities.
• Coordinating meetings and ongoing communications.
• Encouraging member engagement and participation.
• Supporting fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement initiatives led by the board.
• Working with the Vice President of Resource Development to establish goals, expectations, and annual priorities.

4. Volunteer Engagement & Community Relations (20%)

Coordinate volunteer engagement activities by:

• Managing volunteer onboarding and orientation.
• Serving as the primary point of contact for prospective and active volunteers.
• Coordinating volunteer communications and ongoing engagement.
• Tracking volunteer participation and recognition.
• Planning volunteer appreciation initiatives, including National Volunteer Week activities.
• Working collaboratively with Club staff to provide meaningful volunteer experiences.
• Helping cultivate volunteers into long-term advocates, ambassadors, and donors.
• Supporting community outreach opportunities that increase awareness of BGCSENC throughout the six-county service area.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• One to three years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit development, volunteer management, event coordination, or a related field preferred. Relevant internships or volunteer leadership experience may be considered.
• Experience creating content for social media, websites, newsletters, or other digital communication platforms.
• Photography, videography, and basic video editing experience is preferred.
• Experience planning or coordinating events, volunteers, or community engagement activities is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with donors, volunteers, community partners, and colleagues.
• Creative storyteller with the ability to communicate the impact of BGCSENC's mission through written, visual, and digital content.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Experience with Canva, social media platforms, website content management systems, photography, and video editing software is preferred.
• Experience with CRM software such as Bloomerang is preferred or the ability to quickly learn new systems.
• Willingness to occasionally work evenings and weekends to support fundraising and community events.
• Valid driver's license with reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout BGCSENC's six-county service area.
