ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The role involves providing exceptional care in a Level III Trauma Center's Intensive Care Unit, specifically within a 20-bed Medical/Surgical ICU. Our team cares for a diverse range of adult patients with various critical conditions.

Unit Description

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 20-bed unit dedicated to the medical and surgical care of critically ill patients. Common diagnoses include:

• Substance Abuse/Overdose
• Severe Psychiatric Conditions
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Sepsis
• Gastrointestinal Bleeding
• Respiratory Failure
• Cardiac Arrest
• Renal Failure
• Cardiogenic Shock

Our staff includes attendings and residents who are present in the ICU 24 hours a day to support patient care.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Monitoring patient conditions and vital signs.
• Administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Providing support to patients and their families.
• Collaborating with healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive care.
• Floating to Medical/Surgical units when required, managing up to 4-5 patients.
• Reading telemetry strips to aid in patient assessment.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

• Active Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) License.
• At least 2 years of continuous experience in a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) required.
• Telemetry competency required.
• Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Working Conditions

This position requires a commitment to rotating shifts, including days, evenings, and nights. Day rotators may be rotated between various shifts as needed, while night shifts will remain consistent. The RN-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2 or 1:1 for high acuity patients, adjusting to 1:4 or 1:5 when floated to other Med/Surg areas.
