Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Join a dynamic oncology nursing team where you'll make a profound difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families. As a Registered Nurse in our Oncology Clinic, you will provide compassionate, evidence-based leadership in coordinating and delivering exceptional patient care during one of life's most challenging journeys. This is an opportunity to leverage your clinical expertise and passion for oncology nursing to positively impact patient outcomes and quality of life.

You will utilize the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide, delegate, supervise, and document comprehensive care and patient education. Working collaboratively with our multidisciplinary oncology team, you will demonstrate clinical excellence, effective communication, and unwavering commitment to patient advocacy. You may work independently and in collaboration with principal investigators on clinical trials, contributing to advancing cancer care and treatment innovations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

• Deliver compassionate, specialized nursing care to oncology patients across the continuum of cancer treatment, demonstrating deep clinical knowledge and expertise in oncology nursing
• Assess patient needs, develop individualized care plans, and implement evidence-based interventions tailored to the unique challenges of cancer care
• Provide patient and family education on treatment protocols, side effect management, and supportive care strategies, empowering patients to actively participate in their care journey
• Coordinate care and communicate effectively with oncologists, advanced practice providers, social workers, and other healthcare team members to ensure holistic, integrated patient support
• Supervise and delegate nursing tasks while maintaining accountability for quality outcomes and patient safety standards
• Document comprehensive, accurate clinical assessments and interventions in accordance with regulatory requirements and best practices
• Demonstrate clinical competence through continuous learning, professional development, and maintenance of current oncology nursing knowledge
• Collaborate with principal investigators on clinical trials and research initiatives that advance oncology treatment and patient care
• Advocate passionately for patient needs, dignity, and preferences throughout the treatment experience

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred. Successful completion of Henry Ford Ambulatory orientation.
• Maintains and demonstrates current clinical knowledge in area of specialty.
• Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans.
• Ability to perform a wide variety of professional nursing services.
• Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and medical group personnel.
• Preferred experience in oncology nursing or related specialty.
• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical documentation software.
• Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate patient and family education on complex treatment protocols and side effect management.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams in a clinical setting.
• Strong critical thinking and clinical assessment skills with ability to develop individualized care plans.
• Experience or knowledge of clinical trial processes and research-based nursing practice preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

• Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
• Current BLS or ACLS per Henry Ford Health policy.
• Certification will be required when it is a regulatory requirement in the State of Michigan or a documented community standard, i.e., Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).
• Chemotherapy and biotherapy certification or willingness to obtain within six months of hire preferred.
• Current knowledge of oncology nursing standards of practice and evidence-based treatment protocols preferred.
