General Summary Plays a key role in the care of specialized pediatric patient populations. Provides detailed nutrition counseling, develops nutrition care plans and recommendations for diet, tube feedings, parenteral nutrition, vitamins, nutrition‑related medications, and other interventions that impact nutritional status, growth and quality of life. Offers education to patients, families, and staff, and serves as an educational resource within inpatient and outpatient settings. Responsibilities Evaluate patients’ nutritional status by reviewing medical records, direct interview, physical examination, laboratory data, and progress of diet therapy. Calculate nutrient intake, monitor growth trends, and assess tolerance of oral, enteral, or parenteral feedings. Make recommendations to the clinical team regarding nutritional management and enter enteral or parenteral feeding regimens under the confirmation of a licensed independent practitioner (LIP). Collaborate with the clinical team, patient, and family to develop a specialized nutrition care plan and assist with discharge planning and home‑care arrangements. Provide outpatient nutrition counseling in the clinic setting. Integrate evidence‑based guidelines into practice, and stay current on trends and developments in clinical nutrition and specialty areas. Develop and deliver staff education, in‑services, and internal presentations on nutrition principles and applications. Precept dietetic interns and design learning modules. Participate in community relations, speaking events, and external outreach to promote nutrition services. Collect data for quality improvement studies and contribute to research opportunities. Participate in departmental and hospital‑wide committees and assist in creating or revising nutrition policies and procedures. Support the planning and implementation of the Lurie Children’s Annual Nutrition Conference. Maintain documentation and productivity standards, managing time effectively for all assigned functions. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Advanced analytical and decision‑making skills. Strong counseling, communication, and teamwork abilities. Intermediate computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and staff. Education and Licensure Bachelor’s degree from an accredited dietetics program (required). Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of one year clinical experience post‑completion of a dietetic internship or supervised practice. Pediatric clinical experience preferred. Registered Dietitian (RD) credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required. Illinois State licensure as a registered dietitian (LDN) required; pending licensure accepted for up to six months under supervision. Preferred certifications: Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), and/or pediatric/renal/oncology specialties. Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
