Lead Backend Java Engineer

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• We expect formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, plus 5+ years of practical experience.
• We need hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability in large-scale enterprise environments.
• We require advanced proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs within microservices and distributed systems.
• We look for strong experience with relational databases such as Oracle or DB2, and/or NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, along with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and automation practices.
• We expect strong command of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
• We value strong problem-solving, analytical, and stakeholder communication skills.
• We need demonstrated success building high-volume, low-latency, mission-critical financial systems.
• We seek hands-on experience integrating AI/ML and GenAI into enterprise applications, including LLMs, RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector stores/databases, model evaluation, and production monitoring (MLOps).
• We expect experience leading the use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to set expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• We look for practical experience working across cross-functional teams in complex enterprise organizations.
• Preferred: cloud-native development experience with AWS or a similar platform.
• Preferred: exposure to Prime Finance, Securities Lending, or Broker Dealer platforms.
• Preferred: experience with event-driven architectures, including Kafka, MQ, and related messaging systems.
• Preferred: familiarity with modern front-end technologies such as React and UI frameworks.
• Preferred: exposure to domain-driven design, full-stack development, and modern architectural patterns.
• Preferred: experience with observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, or ELK.
• Preferred: interest in emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development, automation, and advanced analytics.

• We design, develop, troubleshoot, and deliver creative software solutions for complex problems across distributed systems and microservices architectures.
• We write secure, high-quality production code and review and debug code written by others to uphold engineering standards.
• We build and integrate AI/ML and GenAI capabilities into production platforms, including LLMs, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, and MLOps for lifecycle management, monitoring, and governance.
• We promote enterprise-approved AI-assisted engineering practices, such as code review, refactoring, test acceleration, and incident or root-cause analysis, while enforcing secure coding, peer review, automated testing, and pattern reuse.
• We identify ways to remove or automate recurring remediation work to strengthen stability, resilience, and application performance.
• We lead architecture and design decisions that shape scalability, performance, and the long-term direction of the platform.
• We run evaluation sessions with internal teams and stakeholders to review architectural proposals and ensure alignment with enterprise technology strategy.
• We help modernize the platform through cloud-native, event-driven, and microservices-based approaches.
• We provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers while supporting a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
• We partner with business, product, and operations teams to turn Prime Finance and Broker Dealer needs into scalable technical solutions.
• We ensure strong delivery across environments with a focus on SDLC discipline, testing, and production stability.
